Cold Air Intakes

Has anyone installed a cold air intake on a 09 Tacoma?

i have the trd in truck but its an 06. but im sure its the same...

 

its even colder when you put ice in your air box

 

Wanted to see if its worth it! Looking for a boost!

If you want a boost get a supercharger. Everything else is a waste of money IMO!

 

TRD's newest intake dyno'd 10.x HP increase on 4.0L tacoma. It dyno'd over 20HP on over 20tq on s/c'd tacomas. TRD never published the results.

I put mine on because on a supercharged vehicle it makes the engine bay look 100x better and my tacoma is used for show fairly often. They look ugly with the stock intake.

I have sold quite a few of them to 4.0L owners, nobody has ever told me it was "just noise" ... i do hear that from exhaust owners though.

I put my aFe Pro Dry stage 2 on the other day. I can hear it pretty good after about 3.5k rpms. I guess it gives a slightly better response. I really just like the way it looks over the stock one though. Guess thats really all that matters anyhow, if "you" like it.

 

I'm not gonna bash anyone on here but I'll say this I do a TON of research before I spend my cash on anything for my taco. The first thing I put on was a CAI. After a lot of research and though I went with the URD CAI w/o the MAF calibrator (for now). It's not loud at all unless you really get on the pedal and and when you do hear it, wow it sounds great. Now as far as everything else... I'm not sure on exact mpg increase but I'll say this I increased my total miles per full tank by an average of 76 miles/tank, throttle response has increased and power has some but not as much as you would think. After I get the calibrator it will even get better. All of these other guys that have CAI aren't truly getting cold air, the air that comes from a design where your filter is in front of your vehicle runs about 30 degrees cooler than inside your wheel well or inside the engine compartment itself where the air is stagnant. I'm done with my soap box to make it short hell yeah its worth it

 

Just a couple of notes on your post:

• MAF cali only has an affect on the engine when in OPEN loop mode (start-up, 90%+ throttle or so), so mpg increase with MAF cali not likely, depending on your driving habits. Increased performance at full throttle, yes, should be.
• Did you get the CAI before, or after getting 10k miles on the clock? I see quite a few CAI mpg claims by new(er) trucks, and suspect some of the mpg gains to be just break in mpg's. fyi, I noticed an unexplained mpg jump at about 7k miles on my stock truck.
• As for temps, I've run stock, this , and an AFE. I've noticed no more than a 3-4 degree difference in all of those, and no mpg gains/losses. While I agree an in-engine-bay intake could reach 30 degrees difference, not so on the ones I've used.

 

I got the CAI after 42k on my truck. Im not positive if the calibrator will make that big of a difference but since im gonna be running 35's any xtra help will be appreciated, or I could regear I guess.
