You know, we never did the Nessy Burger Meet (Hwy. 76 & I-15), and group run to Panda Jerk's Drug Airport/"Welk Run"... That is a lot closer to Christian and only 12 miles from me, in Oceanside!

Hey Doug, my truck can lift its rear leg, too!:

Just a small point here (I had an '01)... They are NOT auto locking hubs...

Toyota (and others) use an A.D.D., Automatic Disconnecting Differential.

Basically the difference is you can shift on-the-fly from 2WD to 4WD-Hi and back into 2WD, while moving (forward).

Auto. locking hubs would allow you to go into 4WD without getting out and manually locking the hubs, but they would only unlock if you drove in reverse for some distance. My dad had them on his '65 Wagoneer.

The ADD has a fork that locks into the half axle, where it comes out of the front differential. If that motor doesn't get electricty or that fork doesn't go in, as it should, then no front wheel drive. ;)

Now that I have new tires and my light bar is fixed and modified... I am ready to go wheeling (I also am selling irrigation jobs again)!

I think I want to run out to Ocotillo Wells.. and play with these Dynapros in the sand there. It isn't nearly the same sand as in Baja on the beach, but fun, anyway. Perhaps check out 'Broken Shaft Gulch' and climb up 'Devils Dropoff'... Haven't been there since just before the earthquake of last Easter that closed Sandstone Canyon.

have small metal shavings in your diff is actually a normal thing its when you have large chunks or massive amounts of small ones when you know there is a problem....i found out on my front diff was that the pinion bearing burned up since there was no fluid in the diff...i grabbed a hld of the drivshaft and was able to shake it around where you could see major play in the pinion bearing so im sure my pinion & ring are pretty chewed up too but the 4.88 swap will fix that.....now grinding from the center of your truck could only be a transfer case problem specially if you can feel a jump from the t-case like that but transmissions have never been a thing for me so wouldnt know much about them....i would have your t-case looked at unless you think its something you cant tackle if your have experience working with them if not i wouldnt try it.

not that i know of since its an enclosed diff where you pretty much have to pull it completely out then go through the sometimes pain in the ass steps of opening it up...there is a couple posts ive seen where they have posted step-by-step pictures and instructions on how to open the diff so if you wanted to try it you should check out some of those posts...saidly yotas diff arent like fords and chevys where you have an easy access plate to the gears....now as for the play in the pinion bearing im not too sure on if there should be play at all and how much is normal but you can clearly tell on mine there is to much play might call up a toyota tech or try another thread and see what they say cause im curious too.

There is also a grinding sound coming from the passenger side axle, only on hard right turns. Maybe a CV joint. Sound kinda like the cv has thrown a bearing but the boot is still intact.

I wonder if the 2 are connected.

Since the dealer is taking care of it, I wouldn't even go through the trouble, let them figure it out.

Oh, I thought since you said that the dealer you know it from knows a mechanic that they were going to take care of it.

I could be wrong but i know some states you can take a vehicle back within 7 days or something if you find out the vehicle was defective/they were covering up repairs etc. Then again, I could have just heard that somewhere and it could be totally false.

Either way, hope you get it figured out and its not too much of a headache.
