Anybody got ideas for better backup lughting? Ideally I would like a much brighter bulb that won't blow fuses or melt lens. I have a BackRack but really don't want to mount lights to it.

Just last weekend I did the 886 bulb install. After trying a couple of other ways. I have not had any trouble with fuses or heat. If you think about it , the bulb is only on for a little while, I guess if I was backing up for a mile or so it would be longer, but just around town or into my driveway, maybe only 30 sec max. When I put the first side in , I put truck in Rev so I could see the diff. Compaired to factory bulb it seemed about 10 X brighter, compared to the blue aftermarket bulb it was 2 or 3 times brighter. No lumens meter involved, just eyeballed. I left it on for a couple of minutes to see if heat issue. Never noticed or felt any heat on the lense cover. I installed the other one and repeated the 2 -3 min test to check heat and amp draw to see if fuse problem. I had no issues and the couple of times I been out this week at dusk, it was noticable in the rev camera visibility. Heading out of state today for the weekend so I'll have a better chance to evaluate, but so far, other than adding some external lights these 886 bulbs do what I need.

I replaced mine with a set of silverstars and they are brighter than stock. There are direct plug in.

I went with a set of axillary backup lights that are triggered when the backup lights come on. I have a switch mounted in one of my rear bed compartments that has a switch when I can turn them off. Eventually I want a three position switch mounted in the cab that would allow me to turn the lights off, on with the backup lights, or just on so that someone giving me the beams from behind will get the message. The lights are just a set of $15.00 fogs from Wally World.
