Question for you parents...

For those of you who have sons younger than 10, do you mind them being dirty from time to time? I mean like from falling off the bike and gettin fulla dirt, or dirty shoes from being outside.

My sis totally goes nuts when my little nephew (6 yrs old) gets his school shoes dirty,(he has shoes for home, and others for school) but the way I see it is that he's a boy, what does it matter if his shoes are dirty?

I used to be dirty and my mother wouldn't get after me, but my sis is a different story

Reason I ask is cuz I took my nephew for a bike ride just now, he ate it (didn't cry ) and got completely covered in dirt (we were riding in a division that is barely getting it's foundation layed out, so it's nothing but dirt) he gets up and the first thing he does is look at his shoes and says "my mom is going to get mad" and I tell him not to worry bout it,"I got you" I say to him. He's all "OK"

Soo... what do you parents think, (mostly guys here i know haha)

 

not a parent but I wore shoes as a child...still do in fact.
I had one pair for everything, your sister is crazy.

 

I dont have a son, but I think todays boys are too babied! So many kids today stay inside playing video games and on the cpu. When I was a kid, you couldn't hardly keep me in the house, so yes I came home dirty from time to time. Let boys be boys I say.

 

my boy is six, I could care less if he gets dirty, that's what laundry is for.

Dirt is good for you.

 

Boy's will be boy's. If he is to change out of his good clothes and shoes before playing he needs to do that. Now if he falls or gets dirty at school that is different and he should get a break. Now if he didn't change his clothes when he got home, went outside and gets dirty, there should be consequences, six year old consequences.

 

My son is about to turn 3, and i don't think he's ever clean for more then an hour after a bath.

 

I never minded when the kids got dirty; I think it's more of a mother thing. My wife still buys me new sneakers just as my "dirty" ones are getting comfortable. I usually wear the old ones a couple more months just to show her who's in charge...

ya, like the father from "everybody loves raymond" show said after one of the kids asked what he did after he got a cut, he said "put some dirt on it"

far from beeing a parent(sorry the title got me) but yor sis sounds like a b****. your nephew shouldn't but afraid of stuff like that specaially at that young age

 

LOL, good thread. My 5yo son is always getting dirty. What makes it worse is he wears a uniform to school, which is a light blue polo shirt and tan pants. He is always getting those clothes dirty.

One time we where playing miniature golf and the last hole is right by a small pond, his ball was right on the edge, of course he fell in! I grabbed him before he was all the way in, but he was a mess. He started cracking up, so I just had to laugh too.

I figure with boys, its going to happen. I didn't care when I was his age, and he is not going to care either.

No need to call the OP's sister a bitch. Thats how women are. They worry about spending the money for new shoes. Thats what dads are for, getting them dirty and letting them know its ok!

 

Jesus Christ. She's gonna give the kid a complex. They get dirty from time to time. No big deal. Be worried if they don't.

I have two boys ages 5 and 8. I could care less if they get dirty or not. We have been outside and had mud fights in our new shoes, It is part of growing up as a boy. I encourage my boys to get dirty play and have fun. Tell your sister that she is raising a boy and not a little girl.

 

not a parent but my cousins two younger brothers, 4 and 5 years of age are NOT allowed outside, their mother wont let them, shit the 5yr old got bit by an ant the other day and she took him to the ER cause it was swelling. i feel bad for those two kids
