I have been wanting a 2nd gen Tacoma since 2005. Back then I was broke and couldnt get financing. A dumb kid who didnt know how to get what he wanted. Now finally I have my truck. After 2 deployments, a divorce, and years of fighting my way out of a financial hole I present my new 2011 Toyota Tacoma.

After giving up on my dream, I was hell bent on getting a 2 door Jeep Wrangler but I knew in my heart I would not be satisfied. The Tacoma was always in the back of my mind. I wrestled with the thought of buying a foreign vehicle. The patriot in me would not let that happen but after drooling over both vehicles for so long, I could not justify paying the same price for an underpowered 2 door even if it was a Rubicon. I'm not taking anything away from the Jeep Wrangler but the Tacoma has it beat at almost every level except maybe rock crawling. So needless to say I love my new Taco!

Congrats bro, and Toyota is not so foreign, they are assembled here in states and in Mexico, much like the "domestic" vehicles. It's only a name that's not domestic...

Congrats and thanks for your service! Enjoy the new truck.

I went back and forth on the same decision, went with the Tacoma because of my very long commute. Commuting in a Jeep just didn't make sense.

Toyota is about as American as a foriegn car company can be...employing about 30,000 Americans.

Some may argue it's where the profits stay as to whether your truly buying American or not, because I always used to ask...which is more American...a foriegn company car made in the U.S....or a U.S. company car made in Mexico for example.

I've done a lot of reading on the topic and came to this conclusion. If it benefits our people, then I'm totally fine with it. Meaning, does it employ Americans, not just to build it, but where the money really is, is what country the Research and Development is performed in. For companies like Nissan and Toyota, most of their truck R&D is done here in the U.S. and since they are also built here, it really benefits Americans greatly.

What I don't want to buy is a vehicle that was researched and developed, foriegn company owned, and built outside the U.S.

    My $.02

First let me congratulate Tex on the new truck - Great Choice and thanks for being a patriot - God Bless You.

Daniel; Your comments concerning foreign vs. USA made are about the best explanation I have seen or heard. The bottom line is that no matter which vehicle you purchase, as long as the company employs American workers here in the US, those workers are supporting the US economy. Furthermore, all auto manufacturers purchase parts made in foreign countries so the crap about being loyal to the US manufacturer is weak since they are not loyal to the USA. WARNING: Politics - Whether we like it or not, and I don't, we are firmly tied to a global economy and until we get our heads out of our as_ _ _ and fire our liberal politicians and keep firing them until they act in the best interests of America, we will have to focus on doing what we can to support America's economy and spending your money wisely.

This was my reasoning as well. And the fact that toyota has a plant in Texas made it that much easier.
