the latch is stout and is a good design...just gotta keep the spring and hinges clean and lubed..

i noticed recently my latch not locking in as easy as it used to...just took some WD40 to the spring and the latch is much better now..

i forgot to latch the gate closed after washing it a little bit ago and it swung open...sheared off the pin that holds it open...good thing is, once that pin is broken, it jams itself in there nicely keeping the gate held open so it wasn't swinging around..

ben, btnewmann is working on a secondary latch to work with the style i have as a fail safe...curious to see what he comes up with..

Hey man, have you had any issues with mounting your RTT on those Yakima towers? I have the same ones and am trying to figure out if I should mount it above my cab on them, or add another bar to my shell and put the tent there. I guess my concern is the strength of the yakima Q towers mounted on the cab when I'm in the tent with another person.

    Next weekend yea! Haha

Hey sorry I didn't see this sooner. I have a Thule rack, not Yakima. But basically the same thing..

They hold the weight really well. Other than building a bed rack, it's the strongest way to mount them. Thule and other manufacturers put a max load rating on them but that is for the max load while driving. 150lbs up there at 80 mph is a lot more force than 150lbs plus over 300lbs in people while parked.

Awesome, good to know. I think I'll mount it above the cab for now and see how I like it. I won't be doing a bed rack probably forever unless I get another vehicle and use this as a trail/camping rig exclusively.

yea it was wheels and tires or a shed that doesn't leak :p

since ill have to re gear and lock the front, shed is way cheaper

yea thats how I am too. I use the truck as a truck too much to have a bed rack. I moved 6 tons of bluestone in the bed of my truck in the last month.
