    Yeah for me 2-300 more can be the difference in making boost or not :cool: Don't like boost unless I need it.

    you always need boost...

    And how does 2-300 rpms determine boost or not? Just tune it to make boost at anlittle higher RPM if you need that...

    4.56's. I'm an auto and drive long distances so I was afraid 4.88s would be too high of rpms.


    Edit- according to an online gear calculator:

    4.56 gears are 115-165 rpms higher than stock.
    4.88 gears are 224-321 rpms higher than stock.

    According to many people, I would've been fine either way. I guess I just went with what Craig and ant have lol.

    Here some data I grabbed this weekend.

    4.0L
    Auto Trans
    315's
    4.56's
    Used ultra-gauge for RPM reading.
    Garmin GPS for speed reading.

    All RPM's +- 25RPM

    65 MPH/2125 RPM
    70 MPH/2250 RPM
    75 MPH/2450 RPM
    77MPH/ 2525 RPM (70mph indicated on speedometer)

    Hey man, I'm thinking of regearing to 4.56 pretty soon. How do you like yours? What brand do you have? Recently went on a 3200 mile trip through Utah, Colorado, Wyoming and Idaho and the truck was struggling a bit going up hills with all the weight in the back.

    I honestly don't know yet. I've put maybe 10 miles on it since I installed the new gears. I'm recovering from surgery so I can't drive for 2 weeks. About all I know is that it drives a lot better. feels like stock now. I'm excited to see how it does on the highway, and cruise control will be the true test.

    I had that same surgery... that's when I built my flares. :eek:

    throat surgery is the worst. :(
