Hey all, I'm new here and I'd like to start a build thread. It won't be any radical build, just something mild to give it some personality of it's own. It will also act as a documentary of alterations for me.

Looking forward to all the info I can get and the results others have gotten from their experience.

The other thing is, cash is at a minimum right now. Step-daughter is a freshman in college, and the holidays are here. Can't be selfish yet.:) And...my wife will cut my balls off, (slowly!!!) If I start spending money on something that is supposed to save me money. So please bear with me on long periods of silence.

So, my starting point is an '06 Tacoma Access Cab TRD Sport. To date, I have eliminated the charcoal filter in the intake. Added a KandN drop in. Eventually that will be changed to an afe dry filter. I also did the compass/thermometer repair. The fog lights are totally manual now too!

    That's it for now.

Future plans include a mild lift and a slightly taller tire. There are 265/70r17's on it now. I really don't want to go to a 285, but I do want to go to a 32-33" tire. Any suggestions?

How about lift. I want to do it right. Unfortunately, that usually means more expensive. It will be 95% daily driver, and then some trails...mild. Mild lift and driveability in order to maintain the best milage possible.

One question, or two! Can anyone tell me if the rear spring TSB has been done just by looking at pics? And, how about the front shock, is that a spacer or just the factory mount?

I'm kinda stunted at computer use, so I'll do my best to get pics loaded of the Toy as I bought it and pics of the front and rear spring assemblies.

I'll stop babbling now and try to get some pics up.

    Thanks all,
    John

    Toy as of 3/31/12

Here she is on 4/10/13, the only changes are the D2XL OME AAL and a roof rack. Also replaced both CV's and did the ECGS bushing!

Kinda minor, but anything to help milage. Did the AC delete during defrost cycles. I pretty much drive in the defrost/foot mode, so the AC runs constant...if I understand correctly. I did cut the green wire after no successful attempts at removing the connector from the harness. Long story.... Anyway, all seems to be working well! Lucky me!

Yeah...I need to let people know that I am polish, I've had 6 concussions, and my mom smoked and drank during pregnancy (OK in the 60's)...besides...I'm being sneaky!

My decision is made on the longevity I plan on driving the Toy. Mild 4-wheeling and better road manners. Figured I'd do it "right" the first time. (I built an '89 Blazer K5 over a few years with a little wasted cash redoing things) Hope this works out for me. Then I gotta look at bumpers and winch. I'm thinking ARB (as a deer stopper) and basic 8000lb. winch with rope instead of cable. Then maybe a selectable (ARB) front locker leaving the rear a limited slip. I'm also looking to go to a 33" by 10" tire on 17 stock rims. I don't think I want to go 12" wide. Maybe even a 255 series for winter.

I'll try to get pics up of the install. A buddy has a heated shop with all the fixin's!!

^ smart a lot of people dont listen to people who have already been there and know whats up.

They do it their own way (cheap way) then end up spending twice as much because they get the right stuff later on lol.

    Eventually Ill do

Sweet! I just want to get it done so I can drive the thing any/every where! Still gotta come up with a couple grand to do tires, bumper, etc. This is the first vehicle I've had that I actuallly worry about hitting deer. I even got one 2 hrs. after buying a 2001 WS6!

Got my Ultra-Gauge in the mail today! Temporarily mounted it till I get a better idea of where I want it. Now I need to go back to college to figure out how to use it best. I was thinking speed correction once the bigger tires are mounted. But, I'm no rocket scientist, so it will take some time! I does look cool though!:D[IMG]

Added 1.25" spacers today. I like the new stance. These will end up being rims for the winter with studded snows of some sort. When affordable, new rims with proper back spacing will be added with a "summer" (mudder?) tire. Anyhow, pics of spacers installed, and a wash to get rid of road grime and salt as long as the temp. is in the upper 40's!

Aaron from UPS showed today with The Ultimate Lift Kit from Toytec!

The Dakar rear springs are BEEF! They should be a huge upgrade from the warped rears in there now. They are showing the little "S" curves right above the ends of the AAL. They don't do too well with a face cord in the bed.

Can't wait to get rid of the spacers up front either. I will say I'm curious as to how much improvement I will get with the new coilovers and UCA's. I wasn't really unhappy with the ride as it was, though it did wander a little at speeds above 40 or so.

Hopefully will get it installed this coming Sat. That's the plan anyway. Looking forward to learning about my front end. I've done some stuff on a K5 Blazer, but nothing like this independent stuff. Hope it all goes well. Tomorrow, I will start hitting everything with PB Blaster pretty regularly. Gotta combat the rust...as minimal as it is.

My best man has a heated shop with all the fixin's. Even has a Bridgeport mill, 6' lathe, press, hydro tube bender...

Anyhow, heated shop with concrete under me instead of gravel frozen in snow and ice is a huge plus!!

    Pics to follow!

Replaced the sparkplugs today. Probably a waste of time, the old ones looked brand new. Dealer probably replaced them before the sale. Anyhow, got them replaced and regapped and cleaned the "old" ones and put them on the shelf for the next time...in 30,000 miles.

On another note, suspension swap is Sat. and/or Sun., hope all goes smooth!!

Well, stepped over the line again and ordered my ARB bumper and a "cheapie" winch. Ordered through PORC and got a 5% discount as a new customer. I got the XRC8 winch. A buddy has one on his rock-crawler and it has performed flawlessly for him. I've had the Warn 8274 and a MileMarker, both on fullsize built Blazers, but I can't afford the Warn, and the XRC8 is about equal with the MileMarker.

The expenses are building up, but I'd like to get things "done" sooner than later!

On another note, the suspension swap is delayed until a later date. I don't want to lay under a snowy salty truck for a day, so until a little better weather arrives, things are on hold. No biggie for me, wouldn't mind doing it all in a weekend instead of a little here, a little there!

Here's what's coming in about a week or so:

Oh sh!t, here I go again, got the urge and splurged again:facepalm:

Just ordered the GY Duratracs. 285/70r17's in the D range. Kinda thinking about getting it all done at once and THEN taking the castration from my wife. I figured it's OK because I just spent about $1300 fixing her's and my step-daughter's cars.

Here we go again! I'm getting them installed on the stock Sport rims with 1.25" spacers!...after the lift goes in!!

    Duratracs just showed!!!:yay::yay::yay:

It looks like Thursday is the day for a big install! :bananadance::bananadance::bananadance:

A customer of mine that owns and operates an automotive shop is going to do the install for me! In all honesty, I would love to do it myself, but the slush and snow dripping on me is acting like a deterent...even in a heated shop. There is also a great possibility of getting called out on a service call of my own. So...he is willing to do some labor trading. He needs a bunch of heat runs added to the waiting area and bathrooms...and I need a suspension and tires installed.:gossip: He thinks we can work something out.

There is also the fact that he has the newest of new alignment equipment (Hunter), not to mention high-speed balancing for the tires!!

Can't wait to get this finally done.

On another note, the ARB bumper and XRC8 are in limbo due to the weather around our nation. That will have to wait a while I'm guessing.:notsure:

Here's some pics of my new rubber. They will be mounted on the factory Sport rims using the spacers I installed a little while back.

So much for keeping it cheap!

I'll get some pics of the whole shebang to be installed later today!

    BTW...white letters in...or out?

Very sweet. Wasn't expecting after the first post to see your build go so quickly.

I think you'll like the XRC8, I've read a ton of reviews from pirate, all good, and so far so good with mine. Just seal up the solenoid like done in Krookz build.

Looking forward to seeing her all put together. White in.

I wasn't intending or expecting to move as quickly either. The Toy was supposed to save me money, not cost to the extreme I'm going to, right off the bat. My intention is to have nothing to do later but small upgrades with lighting and such.

I got rid of a V10 F250...anywhere from 7-11mpgs:eek:! I also got rid of my pride and joy, an '89K5 Blazer. All 1-ton converted...etc,etc,etc. That averaged about 12mpg on 38" Swampers.

I gotta put a stop to major spending when this has the suspension and bumper/winch combo done. THEN, this thread will slow WAY down!!!!

    I HOPE!

    Thanks for looking!

Got the install started today. Was hoping on driving it home tonite, but I gotta wait another day:(. But, aside from the rust belt affect, things are looking pretty good. A little use of the fire wrench simplified some things.

Tomorrow it will get aligned, driven, re-torqued, then home. Gonna get snow tomorrow too. Can't wait to try out the new Duratracs.

Side note, ARB bumper shipped out yesterday, I should see it by the end of next week:D

    Here's some of the progress!
