yeah, I was pretty shocked at how badly it was put together. A handful of brads, some glue, and minimal amount of silicone inside. I could stick a putty knife under some of the gaps and poke into the box! But now its very solid!

I used a gallon of epoxy resin to seal it up.. plus some Gorilla glue and silicone sealer. I then sprayed the inside with bedliner and coated the outside with the plasti-cote rubber spray... then added the black vinyl. Its super dense now.

Well I could tell something was up because I put my hand around the sides with the stereo cranked and I could feel a slight bit of air leaking from around the passenger side at the top. Thats what prompted me to pull the carpet in the first place. I then pushed on the cones without power on and I could hear it leaking out on the passenger side. The drivers side seemed to be ok, but after pulling the carpet it looked to be held together.. barely.

Sean, did you happen to look at the JL 13TW5 when you were considering what to do with your subs? I'm in the market for a low profile sub right now but havent been able to decide on which one. If you checked out the JL TW5 at all, let me know what you thought about it and why you decided against it. Thanks!

well that was my original plan, the JL's. But a buddy of mine has the Premier 10's in his SuperDuty and they sounded great! So I thought I'd try the 12's. Worst case I'll upgrade to the JL's later. But for the price the Pioneer Premiers sound pretty damn good!! I had them hooked up for a little bit and they sounded damn good! They still need to get broken in and I still need to hook up my DQX and tune it. But so far I'm pretty happy with them.

Interesting. If I can ever make it to one of the meets I definitely want to hear how the premiers sound. I'm still on the fence with the JL's because of the price. I know they sounds great, but it sure is quite a bit of money for one woofer. Anyways, I appreciate the info!

I don't. But the SCS box has a large channel on the backside, well I basically cut out the center section and then fiberglassed it in with heavy duty cloth and resin. Its the same basic shape, but the center area has more depth for the magnet yet it still clears the backside. I need to pull the box out a little to hook up some wires, when I do I'll try to grab some pics.

Hey Kevin, I got a couple pics. Not the greatest.

You can see the area in the middle where its a little 'warped'.. thats where I cut out the wood and then replaced it all with resin and cloth.

One other thing... the area on the bottom of the box where there is a thin piece of wood. Thats SCS solution to deep mount subs. I resined the hell out of that area. Inside I coated it MANY times as I felt it was the weakest area of the box (besides the seams)

if you looked from the inside its a circular cut that matches the shape of the woofer (after I made the hole large enough for it to fit into), only inwards about an inch. Its cut down to just the edge of the thickness of the wood that I removed, so about 3/4". I then used a pretty thick new towel as the matting. Soaking it in resin, front and back, applying and then coating many more times... another layer of cloth in the inside as well.

I just went out and hooked up my DQX, used some old RCA's and some old power cables. Man it sounded AWESOME!! I didn't mess with any of the input settings or EQ settings (30 bands per channel, plus 2 parametric bands). The only adjustment I made was to set the bandpass (8" Pioneers in the doors) to have a bandpass of 80-450. It sounded farking awesome! I'm very very happy. Now to just get my DDC, cables and everything so I can install it properly.

Those pre-fabbed boxes can be sketchy. I got mine (music moose) a while ago and so far its held up but I haven't examined it that closely. I got tired of the 10s though and started working on this:

Didn't get the time to finish it though. It fit two Image Dynamics ID12s easily. Fiberglassing is a ton of work though!

Thats a nice looking box. My thoughts where that I would try to 'fix' the box I have... if I failed I would start from scratch. But I'm pretty happy with how dense and air tight it is now.

LOL.. yeah, the hold was about 8 inches wide, and about 2-3 inches tall... in an arch. But once I put the cloth and resin over it, you can't really tell. I stapled the cloth in place so it sorta follows the shape already.

Yes, the square piece on the bottom is only about 1/4" thick. So I put a bunch of resin and cloth on the inside of it to strengthen it up.

I got my DQX installed in the place I want to eventually put it. But I need to put the screws back in place for the seat storage box and I still need my "good" RCA interconnects. UPS says tomorrow! Once its hear I'll button it all up.
