^^LOL... I think I am just a motivated DIY'er. I graduated in Mechanical Engineering last year but I am mostly a project manager (AKA "glorified paper pusher").

Thanks, I have not done much to the truck since I installed the JBL factory Bluetooth. I still have some minor body work plus a few extra mods I would like to eventually do but I am kind of switching gears now and starting to get back to work on my mustang.

I did actually. I think my homemade amplified microphone could use some work but it functions. Everyone says I sound fine unless I am on the freeway.

Here is my write up link.

Well... The good news is the airbags worked . Actually the important thing is that no one was hurt. Including my 11 month old son. It looks like it is back to work. Anyone in the SE Idaho area have a spare rear axle? maybe this would be a good time to upgrade to a factory e-locker? The truth is I am not feeling very motivated right now and I got a feeling these repairs are going to be a battle against frustration!

I was issued a failure to yield citation however, I am going to court with this because I believe the individual was speeding to beat a red light. The investigating officer did not take any pictures or measurements so it will be tough to prove, hopefully I will learn tomorrow if I have a leg to stand on after I speak with my deputy Brother-in-law and my friend who is a lawyer.

    Stay tuned...

man that sucks to hear. Glad you and the little one are ok. After all that work to have that happen would be a bummer. Hope your ticket fight goes well. People have gotten so much worse as drivers from what I've seen.

Well after a day or so of searching. I got a passenger airbag on its way, and hopefully about to close a deal on a silver bed side from another TW member.

Maybe I need to rename this thread the energizer Tacoma... It keeps going, and going...

I might be in the market for a stock TRD sport wheel if anyone has one for sale. I am not sure if mine is bent yet. I got under the truck yesterday and I was able to turn the drive shaft. The axle is perfect from what I can tell I just need to replace the positioning bolt which got sheared off and reattach the emergency brake cable. Unfortunately, that will all have to wait until the investigators can have a look at the damage.

I got my bed side in this weekend. I want to give a special thanks to TW member Sydnoid for hooking me up. He really went above and beyond a sellers responsibility. Just check out that wrap job! Hopefully I can get this put on this weekend. Then I will get to work on replacing the airbag.

I recently pickup a new sport wheel off KSL (Salt lake Classified) for $65 with out a center cap. I took it in to get mount and balanced along with a used 265/70/17 tire that I got off KSL as well. I was pretty happy to find out that my old tire is still good so now I have a matching spare. However, I learned that I can not just buy one replacement center cap for the TRD sport wheel. The set cost $64 but a set of the black TRD caps for the FJ wheels is only $45. So I made the jump to those and I am planning on painting my sport rims black to match. More pictures to come on that mod later.

I got the bed side pt on the truck this weekend. I did it after work and the install only took about an hour. I dont have any pictures yet since I had to swap rides with my friend. He is lending me his GMC 2500 because I am heading down to Salt lake city to pick up this escape for my wife.

Figured it was about time for an update. A few things have happen, I am now a resident of Oregon but you wouldn't know it looking at my plates . The truck is still going strong and driving straight as ever.

After my accident I was short one center cap since the wheel I purchased did not come with one. You can't buy just one so I ended up just replacing all four with the Black FJ TRD ones which were actually cheaper (~$47). Pretty quick and easy mod and I kind of dig it for now.

Also finished the body work on the back driver corner, driver door, and passenger side drip rail.

Also had the cracked windshield replaced and had them throw on some 20% window tint to match the back windows.

Oh yeah and the escape turned out pretty nice too. At least the wife is happy with it.

we're moving to a new house next month with a bigger garage. I have a few other little things I would like to do to the truck but I think my mustang is in need of some well deserved attention.

I like the truck build but why go for a wrecked vehicle for your wife I mean it would make more sense to buy one that had been in an accident but that has not had airbags deployed or much damage just saying

I think it just depends on your perception. The wife picked the escape out. We worked on a lot of it together too. I could easily dedicate several long post about all that goes into replacing the airbags. There are some critical things to do and not to do.

Just weigh the advantages and disadvantages I guess. We didn't want a car payment so I could have bought an older car with older safety features or go the rout I did and make sure I did the repairs right. We are actually driving from Idaho back to Portland right now in the escape and I got my 2 yr old son in the backseat while my wife is driving. I just asked her how she felt and she said at first it was a little concerning when I did the truck, but like me she got educated and witnessed the repairs and now she doesn't think about it.

Also the fact that the airbags functioned properly when I was in a wreck in the Tacoma after I fixed it once adds a little more reassurance to everyone.

On a side note I added the roof rack a few months back. I'd say the truck is pretty much where I want it. I might look into installing a entune nav unit one day but I'm not really motivated right now since I have plenty of other projects

This is exactly what me and my dad did with my 96! I've been looking for months now for a second gen access cab on copart and IAA that's close enough for us to pick up with no luck. If you can do it, this is the way to buy a Tacoma for sure!
