That's what I figured lol. Lettering is more than technical writing. Lettering is the practice of placing text on drawings in all caps, uniform spacing, uniform letters, so drawings are legible, words can't be confused, and if necessary easily translated for these same reasons.

No biggee, I can read your writing. :D

But I deal primarily with the steel industry, so yeah I have had damn near 100 yr old drawings to work with sometimes. I couldn't imagine all the drawing work pre-CAD.

I meant that we covered proper lettering like what you just talked baout, as part of our technical writing class.

i'll see if i can did up some of my drawings from old design projects. i know some of those have writing that could have been a computer. i just have to think of it as drawing instead of writing, and then the mess turns into a nice legible string or perfect circles and straight lines. but it's a lot of effort when you're the only one who would know what i was doing lol.

i probably carried a diagram similar to this around with me for the first 6 months of college.

Not so much now, but when i worked for the American Bureau of Shipping, every once in a while I would be working on an onld Navy ship that had structural drawings dating back to the 20s. the consistency was amazing for the tools they had.

at least for a first draft, i much prefer hand drawing. i find that i'm much more creative and get a lot more "outside of the box" designing incorporated. i just can't do that when i start from scratch on a computer.

i think i'm all set to go for the y-pipe this weekend. gotta cut off the old one, drill out the bolts in the factory manifolds, then hopefully bolt it in without any huge issues. picked up the needed hardware today. just crossing my fingers this rain doesn't go through the weekend.

your best bet is really going to be start from scratch. the biggest hindrance that URD and DT have to work around is the location of the factory socket joint where the y-pipe bolts up to the rear pipe and muffler. when i built the one currently on the truck, i moved that bolt-up about a foot +/- to the rear of the truck. that allows you to take the crossover around the rear of the transfer case, giving you the the clearance that the URD doesn't have, and then put the y-collector further back, eliminating the 180 degree bend that the DT has.

but yeah, i'll let you know how i like it :p

keep that up and we're gonna deport you to !NY! to live with !SCOTT!
