they have to move slow because the faster you go in those things the bumpier and more rattling you get sure you can haul balls somewhere with a trailer but everything inside will have rattled to shits. also a momentum thing i guess with bumps and such from the road? i think after watching ice road truckers a few times i kinda understand why they have to go slow lol well that show and physics

2000 lb trailer plus your Tacoma has got to be close to 8000 lbs combined. I know in Idaho if you are over 8000 lbs combined weight that you have to pay extra fees to register your vehicle for it. They pretty much make all diesels pay it since they almost weigh that from the factory and they were going to try to tack it on for me and I told them they were crazy. haha 1st off I don't tow anything and 2nd this is a 4200lb rig from factory. haha Way shy of 8000 lbs. At the time I didn't know mine weighed almost 5000lbs and that I was going to add all this armor to it. haha

I don't know how much the fees are because it just says they vary depending on weight and use.

that's a stupid law(or whatever you call it). based on that, everyone with a midsized truck or larger has to pay. when i tow my dad's 22' boat, which is just about at the 6500 lb limit, my combined weight is 12,000 lbs. even a stock truck pulling the max rated is 10.5k+

I would call it a towing tax basically. haha Like I said diesels pretty much have to pay it whether they tow or not. The 4wd duramax weighs about 7400lbs. The dually model (although at that point you probably bought it to tow) weighs 7900 lbs.

So either you don't tow and you don't pay it, or you do and you pay it.

    do not want.

tolls while towing are bad enough. that extra axle is a killer. really bad when i tow the dual axle boat trailer :goingcrazy:

    and a pattern emerges!

Idaho and Virginia: taxes/fees/etc for everything. no tolls (or very few)

Texas and Florida: No fees/taxes(no income tax)/etc. TOLLS EERRRRRRVVYYYWHERE!

state is making its money either way, just with different methods.

this is true......until you aren't driving at 4am, and there is traffic.
luckily i only have a mile drive to work, and have only paid one toll since i got here, but i'm sure i'll load up on tolls on the way to wheeling this weekend.

as far as houston vs north texas, why would it be any other way? more people + more tolls = plenty of chash for the state, and no need to st up toll stations (cost money to do that) in an area that only sees a small fraction of the traffic

Pretty much. So you just have to figure out which fees you hate more and/or which ones apply least to you I guess. haha

lol the tolls are cheap though i bet this whole wheeling trip deal is gonna cost you maybe 8 bucks in tolls. when i first got the camry i hit tolls like a mofo got the bill back and it was 6 bucks  tolls are so cheap so i no cares especially since the toll roads here have so many lanes and almost no traffic and you can :burnrubber:

    ...too much shit to list.
You don't need a new axle to get brakes on your existing trailer. Just need the brake backing plates and the drum. The drum will replace your existing hub.

A little bit of wiring and you'll have brakes.

Oh and holy balls your trailer is tall!!!!

    Yep....

i jsut have a bitter taste in my mouth about tolls from the first time i was in houston a few months ago. the place they put me in had me paying $5 in tolls to work, and $5 on the way back. $50 in tolls per 5 day work week is messed up.

but don't i have to have the 4 bolt square plate on the axle for the back of the brake assemble to mount to? i gues i could just weld that on instead of building a new axle. I currently have a buttload of tabs on the axle for the links and shocks, but none for brakes. this is how the hubs are set up now.

and yeah, it's quite tall. it started life having a dual purpose. i wheeled it, but also had to be able to fit everything i owned in it to go back and forth between VA and FL. now that i don't have to do that anymore, i'm working on a design to replace the enclosure with something about half the height, and a RTT on top. also going to replace the coil springs and sepearate shocks for a set of coilovers. also thinking i should add an antirock swaybar on it too when i do that.
