Anyone have a stock intake for the 4.0 laying around? wanting to do a snorkel, but i can't for the life of me, think of a good way to hook one up to an aftermarket style intake and still have it be dust and watertight.

Gotcha, need to get rid of that damn manifold taking up space. Snorkel sounds like a nice mod too.

i'd need everything upstream of the throttle body.

i know those compressors better than i would like. worst experience i had with them was trying to get some OME coils compressed onto an OME shock for a first gen. took simultaneous impact guns, and it could barely compress the coil. scary stuff

I will look around work the next couple of days to see if there is one laying around anywhere. I know we have one for a brand new 4runner, but they have been redesigned so I don't think it would work on ours.

You're right haha I just always remember kinda watching yours grow up in the FIT parking lot lol for a long time.

Just looking into bubba rope which I recently bought and a winch and a bumper for said winch, blocks and whatnot while contemplating how to build the rear.
For sure on those rears though!

I'm real curious how they hold up. I've wanted a set of max trax for a year now but Sierra expeditions is always out of them and I haven't wanted to order them anywhere else. The TREDs are like half the price though and they have some videos on their website of them workin well.

I'm sure they'll work well, It's just like with any other product, they fail when you over-use them. I'm sure they don't have a limit as high as the max trax, purely based on the thickness of them, i would imagine that they will be stronger than the smittybuilts. my gues is that they'll hold up jsut fine for sand, mud, snow, and other low traction or digging scenarios, but that they will be fairly limmited in their bridging ability. that's where i've seen the smittybuilts go snap. they were simbly more brittle than the max trax. i'd imagine that these will have a similar level of brittleness, but that they will be higher strength.

I've wanted to get a set, but I am just too cheap to even buy the cheap ones. haha I don't think I will use them often enough, as of yet I have only been in one situation where they would have been useful to me. Plus that is money you could invest in a winch. A winch will be much more useful in situations where you have another vehicle with you and still pretty useful in situations where you don't. Although you already have a winch, in which case these are more of a convenience since they are much faster to use than the winch.

One thing too, in case you haven't seen it, it is a good idea to tie some string/rope to each one, several feet. Then just throw it to the side after you place the trax under your tires. That way if you end up burying them in the mud or snow after you get unstuck or whatever, you just grab the rope an pull instead of having to dig around for them.

Yeah, i deffinately will use the winch a lot more than these, but since i want to be able to go out and wheel on my own, i need every means of recovery that i can reasonably take with me. a lot of the situations i was in in florida and then jsut a couple of weeks ago in texas, if i were to have gotten stuck without another vehicle around, the nearest tree or other strong anchor point was a few hundred feet away. winch won't do you any good if you don't have anywhere to secure it. and i'm not sure i wheel enough sand, not that i'm out of florida, to merrit building or buying a ground anchor.

I'll definitely be tieing lengths of rope to these guys. they actually make speciaty straps to go with these ones, but i didn't feel like spending $20 a strap
