So, I've had these AWESOME skid plates sitting in my apartment for the past three to four weeks, I've just been too lazy (and busy too) to install them considering I had to cut up the bumper and the skids. However, after a few false starts on the install (separate story), I've got some of it done.

So, let's start with how I had to cut the bumper and skids...

Here's the skids. I had the IFS skid powder coated red - I was so sad that I had to cut it! As you can see, I can't cut straight for shit! But, after I got this cut off, I was able to grind it pretty straight and smooth. Ish... :)
    IMG_0678_f8408820c31271cb5796d1d585f232b2a8c09929.jpg
    IMG_0679_3236ab1abd25ae6c9b21309db17de0ec9c6fa02a.jpg

Here's how I notched the bumper (sorry, no before picture...)
    IMG_0682_f7f48a97f95e9ee0464a48a85ba84a5d9d26d978.jpg

I also had to notch these support brackets to fit with the bumper...
    IMG_0680_0f9b98da26c4958250ee95b60d087f2df20214d0.jpg
    IMG_0681_2f7612e8f21162c80926217d06941e3ab3e56d84.jpg

And, after a little trial and error, I got the IFS skid mounted with the bumper!
    IMG_0686_9d9b4eb1b93b480f957ad3f8decb2b18b8e8f50f.jpg
    IMG_0687_480a76153189392c259b4af9117f8ba8df99ecde.jpg
    IMG_0688_3db538a4bfd81fd2699abbfb0b75052e998c31af.jpg

While I had the bumper apart, I needed to mount my winch controller and hook up my winch. And for those that may remember a previous post - I had to remove the line from the winch again to feed it THROUGH the fairlead!

Here's from a few weeks ago when I first mounted the winch (still had the wire line on it)
    IMG_0602_4f17323231d888249bb551a828c48b337d2e9a59.jpg

And mounted the winch controller here (like many others before me...)
    IMG_0684_b5b97cca0282390bcc1af00681f8a2558580f87e.jpg

In order to relocate the winch controller, I had to order longer cables. The 18" cables it came with were just too damned short! The 4' cables I bought were almost too short! I had to move the controller forward from it's original spot to make it reach...

And here it is all put back together...
    IMG_0685_4b58540b3dee0d5e3de0cdd3a66482dd729614cd.jpg

I also took this opportunity to assemble the top half of the bumper "properly". I'm still not happy with the fit though. Gonna send some pictures to Terry tomorrow morning and see what he says.

    IMG_0692_bbc04d014835e7c9e80541fcb16c8342f2770a01.jpg

As you can see, some of the holes just won't line up! And the bolts that I actually got it, I had to use a rubber mallet to drive them in. None of the lined up perfectly either...

I still have the other three skids to install, but I'll do them tomorrow. Getting too late... But, the hard part is done!

Looking good, I was under the impression that the bud built and AP needed no cutting. Ummmm don't know if I want to do that.

Guess I am gonna have to find out.

Todd and I had issue with getting everything to line up when we put it together. But if you leave everything loose, and tighten up certain bolts at a time it will come together.

On the winch, couldn't you just pull the bumper, slide the winch in to install, or would you have to take it all apart.

Thanks guys! Still more to be done.... :)

I left the wings attached to the top-middle section and just unbolted that from the bottom middle section. So I just removed the top half of the bumper. If you go that route, it's pretty dang easy...

Yeah, it was Fire931's idea - I never even considered it... But it turned a 2 man job of lifting 150+ lbs of bumper and winch into place a one man job... I've taken the bumper off 3 or 4 times now - super easy!

    Finished installing my skids yesterday...

Trans skid waiting to be positioned
    IMG_0693_534c19e124189a97d866edc8e2c71c9b013e0fdc.jpg

    Trans skid lifted into place
    IMG_0694_a493bee052d6d2b7bc299384efd474ba1edd9bfe.jpg

    Done (FINALLY!)
    IMG_0697_3ebea240e5acedebd08e649299eaac2c45b63ed7.jpg
    IMG_0702_1052c1a6f736e1f215cfda1c4dd6338d460252c8.jpg

Also, adjusted my coilovers a little bit for the additional weight, but wasn't able to go up high enough - bent the damn spanner wrench ALL to hell (using Chris' "pipe handle extender" idea)! I used the handle from my HiLift jack. Yet ANOTHER use for it! The pipe definitely made it easier to adjust them while they were mounted (just simple leverage) but you gotta be real careful. There's so much torque on that puny little wrench that it bends really easy.

Also rotated the tires (again, FINALLY). About 4000 miles overdue for rotation, but oh well...

And now that I've removed the diff drop and adjusted the front end a little higher, I'm starting to get vibrations in the gas pedal when taking off... I thought I was going to be able to avoid that one!
