Turns out my early '06 doesn't have the factory frame gussets at the engine mounts. I'm glad nothing let loose when I was pounding on the truck but I'll have to reinforce that area in the coming months.

The All-Pro upgrade steering kit is beefy as hell. It's also a quick and easy install.

This is what I'm looking to replace:
    IMG_1319.jpg

Start by unbolting and disconnecting the outer tie rod end. A tie rod puller or pickle fork are the proper tools. I used a bfh.
    IMG_1322.jpg

This is a big reason for the upgrade...
    IMG_1325.jpg

After bending back the lock washer, the inner rod end simply unscrews using a 1.5" open-ended or 15" adjustable wrench.

    ...

The stock linkage next to the All-Pro piece:
    IMG_1340.jpg

My "damnit!" moment. Toyota apparently switched to thicker threads at the end of the rack-and-pinions some time in 2006. I have a very early 2006 (bought in October of 2005) so I ordered the wrong piece.
    IMG_1343.jpg

I called All-Pro today and they knew exactly what was up. I'll have the right parts in my hands within days and will post the final results when I'm done.

I had installed the URD short-throw shift kit awhile back, but over time the rubber bushings in the stock 2-piece shifter completely wore out. This needed to be rectified.
    th_MVI_0559_4aaa876e8bdcb762867d0e0a262bf5de65805a40.jpg

To start, there was a small amount of play in the URD adapter so that was welded in place.
    IMG_1362.jpg

The 2-piece shaft was hacked up and replaced with a chromoly tube. The hardened steel bottom section and threaded top piece were slid into the tube and welded both at the tube ends and through holes drilled prior to assembly.
    IMG_1365.jpg

    IMG_1366.jpg
Yes, it is mounted backwards. I was so excited about the tubing that I didn't even notice until it was time to install everything in the truck.

    The final product looks stock.
    IMG_1368.jpg

I cannot describe how positive the feel is. Seriously. :burnrubber:

I opted for the steering kit in its place. I was planning on buying it anyway, and since I already had UCAs it worked out for both of us. :)

Seriously, their customer support is amazing.

Yes, but it doesn't move yet. I'm getting close! :D

Pretty sure. All-Pro knew exactly what they needed to send when I called. Since they have the pieces in stock I have to assume they've run into this several times before.

The replacement parts for the steering kit just arrived!

I'll make time this weekend to complete the installation and take some more pictures. :D

This is the first time I've actually seen the depth at which you've commited yourself to this truck and I must say that it is amazing. In my opinion you are taking every precautionary measure and are meticulously perfecting this truck.
Great build, and I can't wait to see more!
