That quote with your flipout avatar is just an awesome combination!

Considering the delivery I just received, I'll gladly accept any harsh words that come my way.

    More boxes arrived today! :yay:

Jesse at High Angle Driveline built me a driveshaft that'll handle the desert abuse and the rear suspension travel. Superduty carrier bearing, double-cardigan CV joint, and 10" of slip oughta help get the power to the rear axle. This setup can run at 32 degrees vs. the stock 20 degree hardware.

I'm a computer programmer, but most of this build is funded by a real estate transaction.

In my spare time I manually masturbate caged animals for artificial insemination. I wish I could turn that into a paying gig but for now it's strictly volunteer. ;)

What a weekend. I did pretty much everything backwards but still managed to make a lot of progress.

    This:
    IMG_1710_95c955f441f82263fb504b0e18eb860fc1927954.jpg

    Turned to this:
    IMG_1718_17e6a6241424979d69cec51f62d5e906c35d804e.jpg

With this set aside for disassembly:
    IMG_1720_be419318100c0b2568d90dbedb3f135c298bb942.jpg

    Then this happened:
    IMG_1724_a9e68db9a4f8b540acb81f154f3166f1daf95cc9.jpg

Then I removed the outer part of the inner CV joint and realized that I forgot to remove the skidplates and drain the front differential. :annoyed:
    IMG_1727_40d525e986b761f7ac59d8e114f08d9767b90593.jpg

While that was draining I installed the new control arms.
    IMG_1735_82047908da31ffeb4f2927b32e3bdf808f902754.jpg

Unfortunately the jounce shocks are going to have to be moved and/or replaced. They interfere with the lower mounts for the secondary shocks and will most likely hit the secondary shock bodies.
    IMG_1731_a8c71c37dd555f233ea42b5c08c81452716e0f71.jpg

Back to disassembling the 4x4 axles, the inner CV tripod comes off easily after removing a snap ring using a standard puller.
    IMG_1737_b20ca707bae4d1b5dffc490051a7e20dbd8a78e6.jpg

To remove the axle shaft from the spindle, start by removing the metal dust cover. I used a small screwdriver and hammer to start the process.
    IMG_1738_6b5c47f7e9c73284cfbb337a6d86c10a0860f85f.jpg

This little pry rod works wonders once there's enough space to fit it.
    IMG_1739_7444e53d039a5dc6ca961498bb8669464a92b56a.jpg

After a dose of PB Blaster I used an impact wrench to remove the 35mm nut on the end of the axle shaft. A shot or two with a dead-blow hammer knocked the axle free. This, of course, was easier on the passenger side as I did it while it was still installed on the truck.
    IMG_1741_304e78cf69093dab45095b8629b4d149a2369680.jpg

Disassembly of the outer CV joints has been far from intuitive. Even the factory shop manual lists the outer assembly and axle shaft as a single unit. After banging, prying, pulling, etc., I finally decided to cut the shaft so I could rotate the joint assembly enough to remove the bearings and see how everything is assembled.
    IMG_1746_44db7e581a651fe883946ed8d250705aa96c348e.jpg

    IMG_1747_6a82d3ce27859ca3e03c3e73322caa2ad7ada41b.jpg

I tried pressing the remains of the stub shaft out with no luck and that's where I stopped. I'm going to call Camburg tomorrow to get some insight on removing the stub shafts.

On a 2wd truck this installation could easily be done in a day. The 4wd makes it a bit more complicated but it'll be worth it when it's all done. :)
