Not sure, guess the grease-able would be nice since it could eliminate noise.

Alex could you send me the info on your fender flare guy? I might look into those. Would look sweet against the orange vinyl I ordered.

I have some curved braces welded onto the frame that the clamps the resi's. You can get these from poly performance.

Currently I'm just using the most basic CB, eventually I'll get my HAM license. But CB is most common so always need that.

That's what I was thinking too. But where did you choose to mount it inside? And what made you choose that CB and antenna?

I mounted the box under the passenger seat, and put the handheld mount on the dash on the passenger side under the vent ( it's a blank removable panel ). Firestik is well known with CB's and have been around forever. Plus their tunable tip makes things a lot easier. Price wise it isn't much more than the cheaper ones so better off getting the Firestik.

For the blank part on the dash, can you just buy a mouunting bracket from radio shack or something and drill it thru there to mount it? Or is there a more efficient way?

The bracket comes with the CB, it's just a small clip piece, that the mic can hang on.

George mounted his in the glove box. His unit is a little bit larger (Bearcat 980 SSB) so it didn't fit in any of the other normal locations you'd try to mount it. I have the same setup, but didn't have the free prefabbed glovebox. :p

For my install, first is to remove the glovebox completely, remove the plastic panel that goes over the glovebox when closed, mount the radio with some post office box brackets I got from OSH, Once that was done, cut some holes for the antenna, power, and external speaker.

Wherever you put it, make sure there's space for the antenna cable to come out with a smooth curve. If you have SWR issues, generally it's caused by there being a kink, a right angle, or someplace where the cable has a radius of less than 3". If you have experience soldering, I strongly suggest fabricating your own custom length cable from RG-58A/U cable. 23' and 11" is the length you need to have a nearly perfect full wavelength. Other great choices for cable length are 1/2 that or 1/4 that.

If you by any chance decide to use RG-8X, please note the velocity factor is probably going to be ~ .75, which equates to 27' and 2.1" for a full wavelength.
