    It will be

No way am I driving it 5500km round trips though. V6 doesnt offer gobs of power to turn 40s or 42s. If I break something in the drive train I'll be screwed. I don't want to waste $3500 of tires in a couple trips either. Won't be incredibly comfortable to drive either.

I agree on a trip that far. I can't even see myself driving half that distance ever.... haha. And being in a noisy ass offroad truck like mine... no thanks. I like the comfort of my diesel. And... when my truck breaks down, guess what.... I make it home :D

My thought exactly. I destroyed my rear diff in moab. My own truck was my only means of getting home. Luckily Toyota diffs are easy to change. I swapped it out on the street in front of my condo in moab. Great memories, but I would be nice to tow it home.

Sometimes I see what look to be very capable off-road rigs lurching unhappily down paved roads and I think the same thing.

At some point, trailering becomes by far the cheapest and easiest solution for bigger trips/longer commutes.
Especially if a couple people can pool resources, something even like this:
    http://www.truckpaper.com/listingsdetail/detail.aspx?OHID=5711939
    begins to look pretty reasonable.
