This combination of resonated muffler with the resonator has made an exhaust note that is absolutely beautiful. No rasp whatsoever, and all straight through. Considering that my exhaust is 3.5" diameter, and it is as quite as it is, while retaining a very smooth strong performance rumble, is very satisfying. Just starting it up puts a smile on my face because it sounds so good. Truly unlike near all I have heard on a 1GR.

And yes, the turbo does effect the note as well, but still.

Over the next few weeks after the 8.7 psi tune, I had gone back a few times to PowerFab, to fine tune some little quirks in the tune. During those visits, we had been discussing upping the boost, as I wanted to be able to run 15 psi. Taking that into consideration, it was clear that my current 550 cc RC Engineering injectors, would have the possible capacity to flow enough.

I already had it in mind that I would need some larger injectors. I went back and fourth with myself for quite a while, about the brand which I wanted because of the price tag. Especially after all of the previous expenses to get the truck to this point.

However, once they were in, and how smooth the tune became with those, versus the RC Engineering style, the right choice was made, Undeniably.

Where I first heard about them, was from this guy I met at The Texas Mile. This is his car.

    IMAG0722_c4a75b9d6d10a1f67ed4727e14b8e78ab147078c.jpg

This guy has a Evo X with an AMS Turbo kit. Really cool dude. Loved to share all of the stories about what he had been through with his build process. Super energetic, and an all around great guy. When he started talking about the specs of his car:

    Some additional Lancer spec.

2.2 Litre, 750 whp, 2800 lbs, 10,000 rpm limit, MoTech Ecu, and "magical linear hp curve". (Not allowed to disclose how though. Hehe.....[IMG] )

2gs on the skid pad. Limited to 188mph with track focus built trans.

Best quarter mile was in the 9's.

Ran at Texas Mile....got up to 140 and cruised there until the 3/4 mile marker and punched it. Crossed finish line bouncing off rev limiter at 188.

My first immediate question was," what size injectors are you running to feed that kind of power?"

He said 2000 cc. I was shocked! So I asked, "How does the car idle with such huge injectors? Does it fluctuate terribly?" (Since even the common 668cc injectors used on the modded TRD S/C units, or URD units have to have very precise tuning to minimize the oscillating idle as best as possible.)

He said,"Nope. Idles just like factory.:D" I was shocked again! "How does it do that? What type of injectors are those?!"

Him," They are Injector Dynamics injectors. Check them out. ;)"

So I did. I am not for certain, but am pretty sure that I was one of the first to run the ID1000s on a 1GR, unless the UAE peeps beat me to it. Lol. Now though, www.Dezod.com has them, as well as www.Horsepowerfreaks.com, specifically for the 1GR.

Oh, and by the way, the owner of that Evo X, was an actually very well known individual. His car is even an unlockable car in a few race car games. He was very humble, and eluded to he was.

All of that last post, was what led to the purchase of these. My 1000cc Injector Dynamics injectors. www.injectordynamics.com

The best in the industy, and I agree.

So here are the new injectors which I purchased. With these, I won't have to worry about upgrading injectors any more. These will supply effectively fuel for 1000 crank hp, on these motors. Far more than I will ever reach.

Have a scheduled re-tune day setup as well. Woot!

    IMAG1036_5dc13f983e96b366f80e9c0a3ac08b68aca3682a.jpg

The small bag at the bottom left is the bag of plug in play connectors. The purple-ish caps to the right are what are used by them, to be able to adjust for height variences. Since some cars use shorter injectors than others. Very smart idea.

I received those on right around 7-28-'11.

The next step, was to go back for a retune with these injectors, as well as up the boost. ^_^

Well, after installing the new injectors, and going for a retune, we found that the new wastegate spring I had ordered was for a different TiAL wastegate. So we just retuned for the injectors. Here are some pics.

Here you can see the VE map being adjusted. The box in the top left shows the actual AFR. About 15.9

    IMAG1060_30ed34c5e5a1b834c255c5b00e8ea1935587ecd0.jpg

Here you can see the AFR getting better if you look at the same box. The box directly below it is the Target AFR.

I side project that I had going on, was getting my wheels fixed. A nice steel plate over some road construction had been placed over a hole in the road, had been layed down with the ends curved up. This is what it did....

Got these back from a place called SABS, here in Houston. Had them fix them as well as powder coat them Matte Black. Kind of a satin black.

Now going back to an incident that happened on the deck of the cylinder.

Keeping my JB Welded deck in mind, and the fright of how it could end up failing on me, I was adament about the fact that the tune had to be extremely conservative.

^^^ That will bear some meaning in a little while, when brought into comparison with another 1GR.

About one month later, and new wastegate spring and schedule set, it was time to retune.

The byproduct of that tune on 8-20-11 was very nice. Even with a conservative tune. ;)

Here again is the graph at 8.7 psi.

Dyno pics of dyno at 8.7 psi.... Torspd front mount vs modified STS Rear mount

And then at a very fun 14.83 psi.... :D

    IMAG1086_68ddd148849a27105969090efae1a324cc38644e.jpg

This shows the best run. Outside temps were between 99-101*

After datalogging, it is obvious that I need a better fuel pump. Obvious on the graph near the end.

One thing to observe is that at a 5 psi increase in boost, I picked up 100 ft/lbs of wheel torque. Very impressive!

    Injector duty cycle = 55%.
