    Hmmmm, I'm not familiar with the CFM and all that. Is 3300 a good number, especially for any high speed stuff out in the desert?

    Tor may have to shed some light here if he can, but my understanding is that the stock fan actually has a higher CFM but only at pretty high RPM and just how often are you just riding redline. The one thing a lot of people don't like about this fan is that the shroud is smaller than the stock shroud and doesn't cover the entire radiator. It must not be a huge issue though since this is the e-fan that most every one is running on 2nd gens though. Several of the guys over on XR-U are running it.

    How fast are we talking in the desert? Over 40-50 mph your own speed will air cool the radiator pretty good and the fan isn't as necessary.

    Yea doubtful over 50.

    I just know there was a guy in OW that had a 80 something toyota and had over heating issues with his electric fan. Kinda scared me off of them, but I know it does take a bit of load off the engine..Was already planning on an upgraded battery and alternator to support electrical mods :D :dancingbacon:

    I might give it a shot and see how I like it. Now that I know it is straight bolt on, It's easy enough to swap in and out I suppose.


    Now what about the coolant reservoir, isn't it built into the OEM shroud?

    It is. I'm not sure what happens with that. I hadn't thought about that so I haven't looked at what the fix is there.

    Truck with Frankenstein stock engine performed flawlessly on the trip to SoCal and back. Even with having raised the fuel pressure, to compensate for fueling since I only have the stock injectors in, it still managed to get a best of 23 mpg. Might have been able to do better with out the turbo and less fuel pressure, but who cares. I'm happy.

    Also, finished disassembly of Goldylocks (second sleeved engine) last night. Found a few more issues with it, but nothing serious.

    These are the thrust bearings. These are the Clevite brand. Similar to the OEM except that when I was trying to install them on my stock engine, I noticed that the interlocking ends would butt with over a 1/16" gap before the main cap was seated.......I chose to install OEM thrust bearings because if that.

    This is what happens to them when the don't fit properly. The Clevites:

    The interlocking ends get squished apart. Added friction and wear.
