Got started on the sliders today. Will probably be done by Monday, but Easter stuff is happening tomorrow, so I'm not sure how much progress will happen. Anyway, here they are:
Here is the material pile. 1/8" 2x2 square tube for the majority. 3/16" square for the legs and 3/16" flat for the gussets. 3/16" 3x2 angle for the frame plates. Grade 8 flange-head nuts and bolts to bolt them to the frame.

I cut out a wedge so that I can bend out the 2x2 for the kickout.

    And of the front

Amazing progress man! Cannot wait to see them all painted and mounted up. How come you decided to bolt them up instead of welding them on? I went bolt on just so that I could sell them if I ever had to and/or remove them to touch-up the paint.

I wanted to be able to remove them if my design was too weak and folded under impact. Plus i figured that if I used grade 8 bolts and put enough of them, it won't be any weaker than welding. My dad is a very experienced welder and said that welding can weaken material just like drilling, so if that is the case might as well make them removable for the same reasons as you stated. I just need to figure out if I will put some on the bottom of the frame too. Ideas?

Anyway thanks and I can't wait till they are done!

Slight progress. Still need to get the legs and gussets cut, then work on a plan for mounting. I have grade 8 bolts, but some of the ones I bought aren't going to be long enough. Or I can weld them and have to wait longer until I can get someone more skilled in vertical welds to help me with the mounting...
Can't see the detail very well yet, but the shadow on the ground gives an idea of what the supports look like.

Cut the legs and gussets yesterday. This is taking WAY longer than I thought it would. Now to start looking at the frame plates. Since I decided to bolt them on I need to pick strong places and make wide plates, but avoiding rivets, etc. makes cutting the plates tricky (since I am cutting everything with a hand grinder). Then I have to start trying to drill out the frame. I have heard the frame destroys bits, so I will probably have to go buy a couple really nice bits...$$$ :( There have been several expenses that I did not expect, such as grade 8 hardware (almost $80!). It may have been cheaper to just buy these things, but I wanted AT LEAST one thing on this truck to be DIY. Despite the time and the money, I am still glad I am building these myself (with some good help from friends and family).

If you can..angle the it up a tad..

    this will do 2 things.

    1) The main rail that is right next to the frame wont be flat side down. This allows just the corner of the square tubing to slide over the rock or whatever. Less surface is touching allowing it to slide easier and it'll be in a triagle for impacts the strongest shape ever.

    2) the outer rails won't be flush with the frame therefore if you pass by something close you wont get them caught on something.

unless you already did all that and i just can't tell from the pics :p haha

    lookin good though

i want rims just that that for when i go to 17s and 35s..

I wanted to do that but the wife is pregnant again and these have to at least look like I attempted to have them double duty as steps!
