A little something was on my doorstep today. This will help me to start the rear bumper ASAP

The end that you weld into the bumper is freaking massive! SO beefy.

i went with the dual shear spindles from comp 4x4. 1.25" spindles but they have the sleve that is 1 5/8" i think. i was pretty set on dual shear...... because it just gave me a warm fuzzy feeling about it. probably overkill

Hopefully double shear is overly strong. That makes me kinda worried now but I can't return it so I will have to see if I can simulate a double shear by tweaking my design.

I will actually try something I have never seen before and will be mounting it horizontally. The weight will be fully supported when closed or opened so I think it will work fine.

interesting design idea. i wouldn't be worried. i'm retrofitting my bumper to work with mine..... you are building a bumper around it. you're smart, i'm sure your design will support it just fine

Anxious to see what you come up with Travis!
Are you planning on including a hitch?

Yep! Hitch, tire carrier and the bumper will double as an air tank! As long as I can find a way to have my on board compressor fill it and stop before damaging the compressor but I am pretty sure it has a pressure shut off that will do the trick. It is gonna be super heavy but I think it will look great. It will be different but I like different.

Most of it is :anonymous: I was going to get thinner material for that large rectangle stuff but they didn't carry 11ga and if I wanted to get some I would have had to buy a 24' piece and it was like $12/ft for it! But I purposely got 1/4" wall for everything that will be coming into contact with the ground. The LB drags ass a lot, and while it will get better with this, it won't stop :)

Haha, I hear you. I did 1/4" 2x4" for my main piece as well that will be dragged around, then 10ga for the sides. Excited to see what you come up with. What welder are you running?

Okay, so I suck at keeping secrets. Here is the product of the first day of bumper building. That main piece is a 3"x5" 1/4" thick rectangle tube that will be an air tank that I can prefill before I go wheeling and will be able to route my air up kit from the ARB compressor to refill as needed.

Still need to finish weld and grind, then start building the rest of the back and sides, which will match the design of my sliders with angular, two-tiered 2x2 square tubing. I will also try to incorporate much of that into the air tank reservoir. The tire carrier spindle will go on the right side and will be mounted in the 2x2 structure.
