That's what I did before I had a locker in there, I just used a normal DPDT switch and it worked fine.

Just read through your build, pretty awesome stuff man, I'm a fan of the hillbilly engineering being a P.H.E myself. I must say though, the most impressive part of this build is that (from what I can tell) the majority, if not all, of the welding that you did on it was with 2 yellow top optimas and a damn Ready Welder. That is just awesome.

All of the welding is done with a readywelder and flux core wire. Btw, I have never had a weld fail with it. I should probably buy a real welder at some point, but I don't really see the need.

That is truly awesome. Goes to show you don't need an expensive name brand welder. Hell i'm still using my harbor freight stick welder and I haven't had a weld fail either. Props to your sir.

Awesome build, pics of how the fenders/radiator etc are mounted with core support removed? And i read somewhere you were using the affordable bender for this whole build?

I don't know that I have pics of how everything is mounted. Pretty simple, I just built a frame around the radiator and welded some gussets on to hang everything off of. The fenders are just hung off of tabs, nothing fancy. I did use the affordable bender for the whole thing, and it shows. It is very difficult to match bend angles with. After I was done building this I gave the bender to a buddy, who built another truck with it. If you can afford a better one, get it, but if you only do small jobs, it works.

I think I will. That way, when I need to do a trail repair, I'll already be well trained on it and be able to stack dimes in the middle of nowhere! Hah. I need to get a Dewalt cordless grinder with a cut off wheel, and cordless sawzall then 100% of my fabwork could be done on the trail.

I wanted to post here and convey my sincere appreciation for your build thread on project apocalypto. It is a remarkable build, truly unique in it's class, and represents the epitome of P.H.E. (Professional Hillbilly Engineering). My favorite features are the manual 4WD shifter harvested from the boat, LT-37's, ammo can air box, and the general remove everything that is non-essential to the operation of the truck. It's a go-anywhere you point it truck. Pure utility. Love it. Keep up the excellent work.

Thanks man. There are not many things in this world you can still love after ten years together.

Thank you, I remember reading somewhere you said you were in about $5k .. is that pretty accurate? With the R&P, disc brakes and locker?

That is accurate. The complete Diamond Axle was $4700 with a detroit and 4.88's, 30 spline axles, and the brakes installed. It also came with spring perches, but shock mounts were on me as well as brake plumbing and the prop valve. If I did a lot of highway trips I would have went with an ARB locker instead of an automatic, but for what I do the detroit is the best thing since sliced bread.

Sorry for the redundant questions but did you match the wms-wms measurement with your front lt? Or is it the same width of our 2nd gens which is 66" IIRC
