I'm interested to see how this experiment turns out. Pro tip: ATF fluid is 10 weight and works great in shocks.

Hell take the back door off and lay it across those two campin' chairs.

No down time. Just revalving them. I had to put new fork seals in my dirt bike and I did a full rebuild while I was at it and those forks are a lot harder than these shocks. Hell even my ORI's are harder than these. I was surprised how easy it was really.

I should have bought some shock oil for the kings though... that stufff was nasty black...
Well I already had 4 holes plugged so I don't think it will be too big of a change. I'm running 2.5w fork oil in them right now. I have a shit ton of 5w laying around if I want to try it. The guy who owns ORI recommended plugging all 5 holes before stepping up in oil weight though.

Too big, those are .22lr size I bet. Speaking of that, the EGR plug on the white dragon is a 12 gauge round. Fits perfect.

It's a blow off valve.

Stick some in the oven, it takes a lot more heat than you would think to cook them off.

I looked into this a while back when I was building my Fox shocks. I noticed that Valvoline Max life ATF had less Cst then the Fox 5wt JM92 stuff. The flash point was lower also, as was everything else acrss the board. That being the case, I would rate the ATF closer to 5wt (actually, less then that, I just dont remember exactly what it was) and less resistant to thermal breakdown before the Fox red JM92 stuff. The closest oil which is the only one I would give a nod on mixing with the fox stuff is Maxima 5 wt clear fork oil.

Otherwise, I suggest filling the shock with full ATF as a standalone. It will not be as resistant to fade as the other two I noted, but its a good cheaper alternative.

I suppose it would depend on which flavor of cherry juice. All I know is that it works in a pinch and you can find it anywhere. Personally I use Fox blue 5W shock oil, but in the winter when it's below zero my truck rides like a freight train for a few miles until the shocks warm up! Maybe 2.5W would be better for the mountains of Oregon.

The one I looked up was only valvoline. I know Mobil synthtetic ATF is different for sure. I initially was just going to mix some valvoline stuff, until I started looking deeply into fluid's MSDS and found out that even though it appeared the same it indeed was not. I would not consider mixing ATF unless it closely matched the shock oils consistency and mixture. Im not saying ATF is bad at all. All im saying is that if you have to use it at some point because you are low or the shock leaked or something, dump any of the remaining shock oil out and refill it entirely with the ATF. The shocks will react differently to how they operate if you do not.

8-32 set screw. A 22 isn't even small enough. It's closer in size to a shotgun shell primer. Haha

JB weld takes time to setup. Locktite sets up faster.

With 4 holes plugs it was pretty nice but I needed just a little more so I plugged the 5th. Unless it makes some crazy drastic change it should be perfect:woot: the rear is where I'm clueless. I should have a better idea after I try out the new valving next weekend though.
