^^^This. Regearing is one of the most underrated mods because of how expensive it is everyone just skips doing it. It brings a lot of life back to your vehicle though!

@Blackdawg assuming the worst. We decided the v6 is as simple as the engine/wiring, right?

Ya, upsetting at just 50k but luckily it is happening close to when I have a large influx of money. Maybe it isn't that bad but if its close to a $1500 bill...gonna be hard to pass up a v6

Pretty much. Idk how the motor mounts line up. And not sure if you'll need a 6speed manual too or if you can keep the 5speed.

Hmm, well hopefully it doesn't come to that and it is just a seal somewhere causing me problems. Might start looking for DD's otherwise and start calling taco specific shops in CO :pout:.

Well, it started eating oil and making weird noises. About 5-6 quarts of oil every 600-800 miles. I have just been "ignoring" while actively researching and waiting for funds/time to dig into the project. I got back from my trip yesterday, calculated the miles, and added some oil before going to pick my girl up from her flight. It's a longer drive being 2 hours one way but I barely made it through town. At a stop light it felt like my engine was shaking more than normal and it threw the check engine light. It just sounded like death and had the same shuttering sound I have heard in the past, only worse. I popped the hood, no smoke, idled fine. Drove it home and it was not doing well. I have it warming in the garage right now and I am going to check the oil. The only thing I think that could of happened was I put to much oil in. I quickly checked it but didn't let the truck sit for 15 minutes so it wasn't the most accurate reading.

Can you see any visible leaks? My moms camry had an issue where it would eat oil but no leaks, almost to the point of running out before an oil change. But oil that is too fine (synthetics or just a low weight oil) can seep though the rings if the tolerance isn't up to spec, but with her camry we went to a higher weight and stuck with conventional oil to help remedy the issue. May be worth a try and check at 500-1000 miles to see if your still losing the same amount of oil

No visible leaks. Checked the oil, it was high but not anything crazy. Maybe the existing problem mixed with high oil finely did in a seal? I am draining all of it and adding the exact amount needed. Oil looks like how it should. Ill be calling shops and figuring out costs to diagnose the problem.

Yeah no visible leaks/ losing oil means its burning off somewhere. Could always check compression of the cylinders

Drove it around the block, seems fine. Still going to a mechanic. If its something I might be able to fix then I actually have the time for it.

Got an appointment with a mechanic. ~$45 to check it out and diagnose it. My friend used him and he seems like an honest guy. She had an oil leak or something that essentially did the same thing that's happening to me. Instead of charging the heck out of an innocent and naive gal, he didn't charge her anything and offered to refill the oil at a discount. Hopefully he can find something out, might take my chances with the dealership if it seems like something that is not likely to be cause by water or dirt.

Not really. It's gonna happen one day! Of course I am assuming the worst with the swap and really hope its a fairly simple fix. In the end it's a simple 4 cylinder and likely can be fixed under 1k. Not the best time for me to do something like that but it isn't the worse either. I told my girlfriend I might just swap in the v6 and she replied with "I thought you were doing that anyways?".

Only time will tell. It gets me excited to think about having some power though.
