nj636 DCSB DB build thread

It's time for one of these build threads. I never made one for my access cab so I'll do one for the double cab. I should title it "another DCSB build."

I had maintenance records for the truck but I wanted to start fresh. I replaced the engine oil, both diff's & t-case gear oil, new air & cabin filter. I plan on replacing the spark plugs this spring.

onto the fluid changes. front diff, t-case & rear diff got Lucas synthetic gear oil

rear diff was diiirtaay




t-case fluid looked pretty good

onto the LCA bushing replacement



this took a good amount of time. I decided while there I wanted to replace the lower ball joints, tie rod ends, hubs & install the ECGS bushing in the front diff

since they were seized in the bushing, I cut the bolts with a sawzall to get the LCA out


CV shaft out, time to remove the needle bearing

onto replacing the LCA bushings, this was time consuming. I was able to press two of the four bushings out, the other two took alot of swearing, beer drinking, hammer swinging, & air chiseling.



The Boyd method worked for the two that did not want to be pressed out.





I wanted to try the Whiteline bushings, but the O.D. was about .050 too large. I had a set of Moog bushings so I installed them instead



glass beaded the LCA's and painted them



this is the dust seal for the CV shaft (dealer only item)


LCA in I used the Toyota bolts/cam's since the Moog's were only half correct




Passenger side wheel bearing was smoked

Driver side wheel bearing was original & looked good when I took it apart. I replaced it anyway



job complete! time for new UCA's

 

took advantage of 4x innovations black Friday sale & ordered an IFS skid. very happy with their customer service, product quality & time to get it shipped



cleaned it with a degreaser



soaked it in metal prep for 20 minutes



a few light coats of Por-15 semi gloss (goes on glossy, dries semi gloss)

 

man, another NJDB build. well at least its Rad Red FTMFW and not SGB
