So I didn't end up fixing my problem. I'm getting a code b2799 which deals with the engine immoblizer. Biggest issue is its hit or miss. Sometimes it fires right up, others it won't at all. I have the whole dash torn down and it has me stumped.

This may have to do with your key. There is a chip/resistor in the key that communicates with the transponder immobilizer. What you describe is exactly what happens when the transponder and chip fail to communicate. Sometimes it starts just fine, sometimes not.

GM has a similar feature called Passkey and it can be bypassed on the GM system, but requires cutting into the ignition wiring and soldering a resistor in place to mimic the key.
There is a service bulletin regarding cracked keys that mess with the resistor, I apologize as I cannot find the link. Not exactly sure if it's your problem but it's a place to check.

How long have you been welding and fabricating. Those welds look amazing. And the end result is even better
