While I would LOVE to decapitate children and de...footitate...? other people...I am not putting those spikes on the Tacoma.

And thank you for reigniting my interest in Top Gear

But I think you might have missed the somewhat anticlimactic reveal.

Sweet truck! I have the same truck as you and have done many of the same things. Did you notice a drop in your mileage once you raised it?

How do you like your sound system with the new speakers?

No mileage drop with the lift, you'll notice a drop when you go up in tire size.

As far as the speakers go, I think I'm going to try a different brand than MA when I get some cash. One of the mids in the front has started to crackle like there's a loose wire. I checked all my connections and everything's tight, so I'm just going to replace them. The tweeters and mid-bass drivers in the rear are just fine though.

And for everyone, I'm so very close to getting the Montero wheels mounted. I'm going to order some parts over the weekend and see if I can't get the bitches to fit. I'm also going to harvest some lug nuts from my girlfriend's Mitsubishi Outlander. They look shorter, so I think it'll look better.

If anything, increasing tire diameter will improve MPG, not worsen it.

Changing your tire diameter is kind of the poor man's way of changing your overall drive ratio. Bigger tire diameter has the same effect as putting a lower gear set in the rear end, ie. less RPM's at a given speed = better fuel economy, but you sacrifice acceleration. Smaller tire diameter is like increasing the gear ratio in the rear end. Faster acceleration, but you sacrifice MPG.

P.S. where are the pics of the new wheels?

X2... In a Taco, V6 and even more so the 4 cyl there is no where near enough power to spare when your talking about a 32 or 33 inch + tire, to where you would notice and improvement over your stock mileage. Even at that, there is something calling unsprung and rotational mass that adds furthermore to power loss which is a direct result of worst fuel economy.

It's about time someone did the mental legwork for me.

I gave up on them too. Nobody wants to bore them out for me. I'll take one just for you tomorrow.

I'm looking seriously at these:

They're not too expensive

I finally got bored enough to take some pictures of the few little things I've done.

I re-installed my light bar that I got out of a '95 Tacoma after painting it flat black.

Here it was chrome:

And here it is black:

I'm thinking of either taking the front rail off or just chopping off the ends in order to scoot the light bar closer to the cab.

I haven't had the time to do any wiring, but I did get my switch mounted for the light bar. It's touch sensitive

I've had my CB in for a long time, but I just never took any photos of it.

I got some 1/2" aluminum spacers from Lowe's to lift it high enough to adjust the knobs, and got screws short enough to just barely grab onto the glovebox without poking through the other side.

With the CB being off the floor of the glovebox, I still have room for all my other junk.

I superglued the handset hanger on the blank under the AC vent, and everything works great

In the lower cubby, I put a small speaker so I can ride with my CB on and still hear everything with the glovebox closed.

I used a 3' Firestik with an NGP mount at the rear of my bed.

And I changed out my sub from the downward firing ED 6.5" to the upward firing Kicker L5 8". I'm also going to work out a new box sometime soon.

I rattle-canned my rear bumper too.

I also came across a broken iPod for $30, fixed it up, and now the white matches my truck. The black one has been moved inside to the stereo in the living room.

Got my PA mounted and wired up today. It's mounted behind the grille using one of the existing bolts from the hood latch.

Nice job on the mods man! I say keep the headache rack the way it is, you don't want those lights too close to the cab, cause that limits the amount of adjustment available.

Yeah what he said. And you need a little distance from the cab for the next time you go airborne.

Thanks, and I didn't really think of the frame flexing from sudden drops

And I'm fairly certain that I'm going to rename this Project: Retro. Those wheels were the cornerstone of Project: Amalgam, and without them the Truck doesn't deliver what the name promises.

True. The bar closest to the cab still needs to come up about 1/2" so the downtubes will line up better horizontally.

I did a small mod today. I found an LED flashlight in the cushion of my favorite chair and got some rubber insulated cable clamps to hold it in the center console. $3.01 and I can see in the dark without much effort
