 looks good! Who makes the box? The Pelican box I have has 4 clips to open/close it on the long side, I'm goin to mount it along the driver front door and back door so I can open from one side of the truck. Is your box the same? Seems like your goin to have to unclip driver side then walk around unclip passenger to get in, opposite when closing.

I know. Heard from a couple guys that regret the snorkle, mainly cuz they're more into rock crawling. I do like the snorkel tho.

yea that'll work great if you get water over the hood...

It's not a bad thing to have a snorkel. I like the peace of mind when I have to go through deep puddles. I try to avoid going through deep water when I can, but its not always avoidable.

The negatives are that you can't go through a car wash, you have to be careful around sprinklers or when washing the truck to make sure water doesn't get in it. It could get snagged on a tree while wheeling and cause some damage. It's pretty much a permanent mod unless you don't mind buying a new fender/patching the fender/patching the A pillar.

All in all, I am happy I have one. I'll deal with washing the truck myself, not being a dumbass with the hose near the snorkel, making sure I don't drive so close to a tree branch that the snorkel (or A pillar and roof rack could hit it). Ive never had an issue driving in rain or snow, but if it was an absolute blizzard I'd probably check the air filter after a little while and if theres snow in it, I'd turn the head of the snorkel around.

I think for the places you like to wheel and how much water there is, plus where you live could get flooded, and the fact that you like how it looks, you shouldnt have a problem with it.

I will say that the only snorkel issue I've seen in the snow, was the "airflow america" or whatever, not a safari snorkel.

A pre cleaner would probably help reduce the snow/direct water worries correct? Even though they are ugly as shit (IMO).

For the safari, you have to use the one for hilux, and fill the gaps right?

Great info and I agree with ya, I def see it as a great mod for when your faced with a deep water crossing or town flooding. I'm not goin to go around looking to submarine my daily driver with it... maybe after I get a work truck :spy:

I agree there are some ugly snorkles out there but I do think the Safari snorkle is the cleanest looking one. I like how it follows the hood line then up the windshield.

For what I read the snorkle is made for the Heliux but Safari gives you a paper template to assist in the installation on a Tacoma

yea like the donaldson pre filter - precleaner_9fe43ee8898b752d5d17353aea29f2366efde297.jpg

would completely remove the snow/water problems but you get worse gas mileage. its no longer a ram air intake, just a cold air intake.

yea not really gaps though.. it just looks cleaner with a bead of silicone around it

I don't believe safari snorkel (ARB) has a paper template for the tacoma. We did the group buy through cruiser outfitters as Kurt was the first one anyone knew of that put a hilux snorkel on a 2nd gen tacoma. He made the paper template for the tacoma. I think the snorkel might come with a hilux template which can probably be adapted though.

Well its a land Cruiser with a diesel so I've got that going for me.
I have an Airflow and love it! Didn't mount it to A Pillar and have zero issues! It helped my MPGs a bit. I do not regret my snorkel one bit! If you have to remove your fender liners it is a must IMHO.

Then I just siliconed the crap out of it to make it waterproof again. But I will just be using it for recovery gear, dirty stuff, tools, misc. it's lockable too which is good.

^^ nice. I'm pleased with it. And it's a fraction of the cost if a pelican. Time will tell if it hold up. But I'm very impressed with the build quality.

Didn't bob (NYCO) have some snow issues with the Donaldson? Thought I might have read something on that. I'll start looking for it.

Edit: never mind he has the airflow snorkel

Here it is. I guess Bob had issues with the Donaldson mating with his snorkel.

Yep. Air flow hood. Never seen an issue with the safari snorkel hood. Doesn't mean it can't happen I guess.
