Yes, good idea but I can live with what it is now. The tank is only in there when offroading.

Buy some from Home Depot don't need a big piece. Then maybe on the bottom of the plate put some spacers on the back of the plate so it won't go rattling. To me I would want to mount the bottle vertical. So in a summary of mishaps if the valve of the bottle broke off it would shoot thru the roof of your camper. If the bottle lying down and valve broke off it would go towards the cab. Just in theory. Just thinking about the family.:D

If you want to be able to use it in that mounted position it can be done if you or your local gas supplier is willing to do the work.

You'd have to drain the tank, remove the valve, and install in the bottom of the valve a J-shaped pick up tube. Decide how you want the tank to sit when it's in that horizontal position, and install the pick up tube so the short part of the J is pointing up at the twelve o'clock position.

CO2 tanks are generally only filled to about 68% of their capacity, by volume, so even when full it's not likely liquid would ever get into the fill tube. At least as long as it is somewhat close to level when you use it. Done right and you could still use it in it's upright position as well.

Anyway, it's not all that hard to do if you want, and it would eliminate the need to remove the tank and stand it up when you need to use it.

I really don't think that would happen, it's kind of like getting bitten by a shark or struck by lightning. The tank is not in my truck enough to put that much work into it. Maybe I can talk my wife into ordering one of those lockable bottle mounts. Unless.... You fab one up for me....and buy me a prinsu rack.:p

According to Miles my co2 tank is going to explode like an atom bomb and take my family's heads off so I found some aluminum storefront framing that I can make a "stand-up" mount with. I'll update my build with it after I come up with a design that looks and works good.

Thanks man! The only thing I wish I had done was get the reinforced Leer cap so I could put some racks on it.

Mines not reinforced for racks but still drilled threw the cap for Thule cross bars. Made sure to make big 2" washers for inside the cap. I've had longboards, sups, kayaks, canoes, ladders, mattresses, etc.. on top with no probs. I plan on putting a low pro safari rack on top in the near future.

Picked up some shackles from truck fest:

I had to take off the powder coat on the shackle pins for the front bumper. It was a hair to thick w/ the powder coat to slide into the shackle mount on the bumper. The rear had no problem.
