Stock!



First came the lift....

To fix, or to lift. That's the real question here.




BUT REALLY WHAT DID YOU THINK WAS GOING TO HAPPEN?!?



I went with an OME lift, it seemed like the best quality for a decent price. I didn't want to go with a spacer lift or anything like that.



The ride quality went downhill.. but that's to be expected.

Installation

Installing it wasn't overly bad. I found it worse than most of the guys on here made it out to seem.. But half of you guys don't have to deal with salt! It took probably 8 hours over two days. The first day Everything was done except for the UCA's (they came separate from the other stuff so they're not in the picture). I didn't really enjoy bending part of the body to get the UCA bolt out.. and then when I tried to put it in the opposite there was a brakeline in the way! WHAT THE HELL TOYOTA. A couple taps from a hammer and a brass punch and the bolts were back in though!



The Clutch

I went with an LCE Pro Performance clutch, after some peer pressure from a few of the Taco bros..



I don't really have any post worthy pictures of the installation, but what I can tell you is that it wasn't that bad. About 6 hours of work although I did it on a hoist with a transmission jack and I guess the 5speed is an easier R&R than the 6speed! Lucked out there

Review of the clutch

It made a world of difference when it comes to shifting. The clutch took a couple days to break in/for me to get used to it. but I absolutely love it now. It's nice and grabby (especially compared to the fucked up pressure plate I had in it before). If I had to replace it again I would use the same clutch for sure.



Rims and Tires!

Sadly I don't have many pictures of the process, but I sandblasted them, primed then painted. Pretty straight forward really!



I went to my dads shop to have them mounted (I'm technically not allowed to use the machines ), but it took my father, me and 3 prybars to get these S.O.B's onto the rim! Talk about a stiff ass sidewall.



And they're on!!

Stiff sidewall? In this picture I'm at 9-10 PSI and you can't tell I let any air out.. Kind of defeats the purpose of deflating if I'm not gaining any track.



Sliders!

Where I'm Canadian I will forever be paying double for any truck parts after shipping and the friggen duty. So that just means I need to get my hands dirty from time to time and make due with what I can get!



They were cut off his frame so I needed to make new mounting feets and cut 12 inches out of them to make them fit!

The process

I wanted to keep the same basic shape since they had the kickout!



I staggered the cuts to prevent a weak point, and also sleeved the tube for extra strength at the weld.

Back together! Sleeved and welded!



I cut one mounting leg out along with one of the braces, then had to weld a new brace in where the old one was.. the trouble? I didn't have access to a hole saw to cut the shape into the tube, it wasn't fun using a grinder to do it.. That's for sure! Luckily I only had to do two supports.

As for the feet, I wanted something that was a little stronger than straight up square pads. I decided on a house shaped deal that wraps around the frame and gusseted.

First time I used a MIG welder in a log time! I'm impressed with myself!

I suck with fiberglass.. I suck with body fill.. I SUCK AT PAINTING

But in the end... It's nothing that a metric shit ton of sanding can't fix right?!?!

I'm still in the process of filling and prepping the inside. I accidently dropped the grille on the rocks in my driveway the other day and had to sand and repaint.. Just my luck! But keeps me occupied!

Recently added a stubby antenna! Hopefully now it won't hit every tree known to man. Although if it does hit a tree, it'll probably break the mount. I thought it was a flexible one, I was mistaken!

The clutch in the ol' girl started slipping two days ago, I ordered an LCE clutch because I've only read good things about them, and how shitty the clutch is in the stock 4 bangers.

I was told it should be here in 7-10 days! So lets hope my clutch lasts that long!

 

Recently put a new clutch in the truck, I got the one from LCE performance. I really like the way it grabs! I don't think the old clutch was fully disengaging, it shifts much smoother now. I'm quite impressed! It took about 6 hours in total to get the tranny out and back in spread over two days, an hour of that time was trying to make the funny ass transmission jack to work for me that wasn't completely sketchy.

Here's a picture of the old pressure plate:


Looks like a couple of the fingers were bent out of place and the pressure plate didn't have all the force necessary to hold during the tremendous stresses put on it during acceleration with the 4banger.


The old clutch disk had LOTS of life left in it.. borderline brand new. I guess it all makes sense because 164km is a little early for a clutch to go.


I also found out I need wheel bearings at while the tranny was all torn out. Awesome.



I replaced both front, the drivers side had a lot more play in it than the passenger, but I did them both at the same time. I got my bearings from Partsource for 321 after taxes. I got my outer dust seals from Toyota, and they only had one o-ring (goes around the bearing inside the knuckle), so I took the one he gave me and went over to Strictly Hydraulics in Burnside and he matched it up pretty well perfect, the only difference was it didn't cost me 8 friggen dollars for an o-ring, it was free

I need to replace my inner seal on both sides before I can drench them in mud again,


And that's AFTER I wiped it out.. you can see the little loop-type-spring thing sitting there around the axle, the actual name for them escapes me at the moment.


OH, and I need a new ABS sensor and maybe a connector if I cant find one somewhere in the garage (perks of having a Toyota tech for a father).




That's pretty much all that's happened lately, shits getting expensive.
