Google Maps now allows you to download the maps for "offline use"

 

Ok everyone...I got the unit and Ottonavi sent me the camera I was missing. I have the unit installed and I am more than happy with it. It does just about everything flawlessly. I have a mobile hotspot I hardwired to truck so the unit has been connecting to wifi through that. That being said, you do not have to have wifi.

There seems to be a lot of confusion around the gps without wifi...There are gps apps that use data (3g, 4g, wifi) to load the maps while you are using the application. There are others that you can download the maps and you do not need a data connection at all. The GPS works flawlessly with and without data on this unit.

Anyway, I was worried about a unknown brand and if it could live up to the promises, I believe this unit exceeds the promises.

The only negative I have found, and hopefully there is a way to change this and the Ottonavi guys can let me know, the unit seems to load either the GPS or the music app automatically when turning on. It is annoying to have to wait for the GPS app to load, then choose exit to go to the home screen, if this problem could be corrected, and the unit just go to the home screen it would be perfect.

 

Thanks for your feedback. Glad to hear that most of the unit is working as should. As for automatically turning on GPS or music app. I believe the unit will reboot from last programs user was using...I will look into this

Thanks for looking into it, I tested out various apps and it doesn't load just any of the last used... For example if I'm using pandora and turn off then back on it still loads navigation. If I use radio it will launch that over gps... I would love for it to just go to home screen.

 

I got the AT&T elevate 4g lte hotspot. I removed the battery and hardwired it to truck. It is only on when truck is. It works flawlessly. I can connect 5 total devices (4+ottonavi head unit)... It has no problen streaming Netflix and more.

Any new info on this unit or any Android units like it. I would love one for my 1st gen Tacoma with torque app. my carrier allows tethering with my iphone. Would this work with this unit? I am able to tether my phone with my daughters Android tablet.

 

Is there any plans to upgrade from Froyo to a newer version of android ? Froyo is a little dated now...

 

Perhaps in the near future? end of year? next year Froyo is out of date but it is the most stable platform at this price as of now....
