So I was looking for one of these for my canoe. Would I be able to raise them high enough to clear a canoe over the cab since you cut them down?

I have been running two 8' kayaks on it and they clear the roof on the second to highest setting. I put them with the cockpit up though so the curve of the boat helps with more clearance. The highest setting would give you plenty of clearance but because they have been cut, it isn't as sturdy on the highest setting.

If you had foam blocks or some type of saddle to add a few inches for the canoe then the second to highest setting would be perfect. And it is rock solid at that setting.

Thanks for the input. I'm going to hold off for an uncut Xsporter. GLWS.

Anybody interested is welcome to make an offer. I am pretty sure I am going to get a shell so somebody needs to take this off my hands.

Here are some pictures in the highest setting. You can see that it easily clears even the factory roof rack.

Here it is on the second to highest setting. Throw on some foam blocks or saddles for bigger boats and it will clear just fine. My boats clear fine due to the curve on the bottom if the boat and the shorter length.

If you don't have the factory roof racks then would the 2nd setting would clear the roof with boats facing hull up?

Just asking for someone who may not have the oem racks and interested in this setup. Also interested in knowing myself since I have the Thule rack and no oem rack. I have not cut mine so there is no issue having them on highest setting and don't really use them in lowest setting but it would be nice to have longboards down low to be behind cab and stick out over tailgate vs up in the wind. Kayaks are 12' so they will always need to be up high. Sorry for long post and semi-threadjack.

edit - nvrmind, just saw your new pic of 2nd setting. looks a little low even with pads but maybe OK with saddles tho...........GLWS

Put the boats on today on the second to highest mark. Took some pictures and the boats still clear the roof by about 3-4 inches. Turned them over and even upside down they still clear the roof by about an inch. I am thinking that any type of boat should clear the roof fine.

Did you have to cut into the bed in order to put the uprights all the way down? Want to get this rack but afraid there's too much interference from the wheel wells.

    Thanks
