I tried a variety of spring ideas. I tried some foam rubber weather seal and a bent piece of metal banding strap from a shipping pallet from work. Most seamed to work ok but I ending liking the coil spring best. Its .500 in diameter x .530ish long and has .040 coils. Hope that helps.

Some people, like me, may have reg cabs that don't come with keyless entry where the dash button version would be perfect. Are the dash button kits gonna come with that cool highlander hybrid dash switch?

No switch or button is included. Everybody has their own taste on what they like and where they want to put it so I'm leaving that part up to the buyer.

Not 100% sure until I get mine on hand.

Off topic, but I did manage to fit this from a Sienna into one of my blanks. Looks like the same design and shape.

Got the kit today, and also the Higlander fuel door release switch that I bought from eBay. Didn't install it yet because I'm still waiting on one part. Got a little excited so I did some pre-prep before I get to install it.

Kit is simple. Nothing fancy. Wire loom, butt connectors, latch, zip ties and the actuator.

Went a different route with the switch as I like to keep it as OEM and stock as possible. Went with a Highlander fuel/gas door release switch. I can confirm that this switch fits 100% on the blank slots on the left of the steering wheel with just one modification to the switch, see below.

Switch will slide in easily if the bottom left of the slot was notched up. You can see that the lip from the switch would hit that bottom left part of the slot.

The switch didn't come with a plug. So I had this laying around. I think it's for wiring up aftermarket radios. Modified it.

(This is the one part that I'm waiting on till i get to install it). Went another route instead of using a spring to push the fuel/gas door out like what the OP used. This is a fuel/gas door spring/clip(not really sure what the technical name for it is). I'm not 100% quite sure if it'll work for the Tacoma gas door. But I won't know that till I get this part.
Got this from eBay. It's for another Toyota vehicle.

It's supposed to be installed like this if it was made for that specific vehicles.

This is how our Tacoma fuel/gas door looks like. Looks like it might work, but I won't know that till I get it.

Sorry for the overkill on pics haha. But it does make it easier to illustrate for this mod. I'll keep you guys updated ones I get it installed.

Good find on the button. It looks like a great fit in the blank space. I'm interested in the door spring. Kinda looks like a small version of my attemp with the bent banding strap I tried. Hope that work so I can switch to that to clean up the look and make it a little more OEMish.

So is this what the kit comes with? Sorry if this is redundant, but the first post states:

"$45 includes lock unit and the door latch and shipping within the US using the small flat rate USPS box.

    What you need:
    Momentary button
    wire
add-a-circuit to plug into fuse box
female butt connectors or crimp caps
You may or may not need a spring to help kick the door open
    "

Was his kit one of the original kits and not the newer version? Thanks in advance.

Also very interested if that gas door spring clip works.

Question... Why screw with button install? Why not just connect to door locks. Doors will be unlocked, when your filling up, and all locked when your away from truck. Less to F**k with.

Same as my tailgate lock, and topper lock.

He did that in post 18 and 19 of this thread for the older version he created, but his selling point is for the momentary button install.

OP did you, by chance, save or do a write up on connecting this locking gas door to the factory door locks?

Don't make sense though if you just want to open up your passenger side doors and you got your fuel/gas door popping up. Kinda looks like hassle to me.

Plus I had blanks on my left side.
