The standard bars use the 15 series tnuts (5/16-18" Thread) I include a few. If you want more. tnutz.com and MSC direct are two good sources.

So for the upgraded bars what is the nut size? Looking to mount reverse lights on the back slot of the bar. Well honestly that's the first of many projects for your racks. I plan to neat on them often

If you ever get a chance to do so, I'd certainly be interested.

ZScott - I got in on one of the earlier designs, where the fairing is that plastic material. I've had the issue that I know you are aware of, where the fairing deforms in heat. I tried to drill out the holes, but still having the same issue.

Anyways... I've been planning on making a new fairing, just hasn't been a huge priority as of yet. I now have a plan on what I want to do and wanted to see if you would be interested in making and selling a replacement fairing, perhaps made of aluminum. I love how your new design and fairing looks, but since I'm already invested in the one I bought, wanted to see if you'd want to something for those of us with the old design and fairings...

If not, I'll figure it out on my end, but figured there are others on here that might be interested as well.

Any chance someone in So Cal has installed one of these racks? I'd love to see one up close.

What is the realistic weight capacity of these racks? I know the factory rating is low.

    Thanks

Zach, what was the production date for the upgraded bars vs. the earlier standard bars?

It would be helpful to start a page somewhere (Wikipedia?) of when each of your innovations took place, or features were introduced. Your rack has so many advantages over other options, I know I'm not alone in investing in this as a "system" or foundation for all sorts of possibilities, and I'll enjoy watching for add-ons, re-designs, and the overall evolution of changes or updates as you test your ideas.

I don't have any way of really testing this and it greatly varies depending on the number and type of crossbars you use. What I have told others is that anything you should reasonably put on your roof, this rack can handle. I have had my RTT on there for about 15 different trips now with no problems. I have carried 350lbs of steel on the interstate at 65mph and the rack handled it like a champ. When I first started building the racks I stuck a sheet of plywood on one that was sitting on the living room floor and had 3 adults and 5 smaller children stand on it (~500 lbs) while I looked and measured deflection. There wasn't anything measureable since it was evenly distributed. The racks are plenty strong.

I can tell you that my cap rack has a 140lb. CVT Mt.Hood and me on top of it with no issues or deflection.
    That's easily +350lbs.

Rack showed up today Zach, thanks. I've got a little work to do on the truck and then I'll get it on there sometime in the next couple weeks. I'll post some pictures.

    Thanks again!

    Rack is all painted!

I have read how to install the rack with wanting to keep the weather stripping on several times (about 15-20) and is there any rain water/intergalactic filth that could get under the weather stripping due to the holes being punched in it?

What damage could it cause with the weather stripping not being reinstalled?

I haven't had weather stripping installed on mine for quite some time. The only thing I can complain about is dust, leaves, and other debris collects there. Just takes a bit longer to spray it all out when you go to the car wash. The roof under those strips is painted and sealed well though so there won't be any problems with rust if water gets in there.

Good to hear it made it safely. Let me know when you get to installing if you have questions. Should be pretty self explanatory except for sorting out the individual hardware bags.

I am very impressed with the way this rack looks. The only issue I would have is I currently have the OEM rack with the Yakima Basket attached. In order to do away with this whole setup and get yours, it would have to be able to attach my ARB awnings to it. Also, I have a 40" LED light bar as well. Can it accommodate these 2 items??

    Thanks
