FYI, unless your truck came with the elocker from the factory, it would be cheaper and easier to go with something like an aftermarket locker from ARB.

the stock elocker is the "8.0" diff, has 8 bolts instead of 10 for the ring gear, no cradle caps and a thinner ring gear, when compared to the "8.4" diff found in the rest of the 6 lug tacomas without the factory elocker.

The housing is also different between the two diffs.

Shit bolted onto other shit, and junk.
FWIW, it would be cheaper to pick up the whole rear end at a junk yard from a part out than purchase a $1k air locker plus $300 air compressor, plus install labor if you dont have the tools and ability. The mod between the two, as stated above is beyond ridiculous, it's recockulous and only worth it if you enjoy a challenge and have time to learn and possibly get angry. You would need the whole rear axle housing and third member. I have seen them for around 500-800 complete. Good luck.

They are both 8 inch diffs motor locker housing the whole shabang. They will not fit in a non e lockered second gen tacoma. Unless you use a first gen tacoma axle or find a second gen with elocker rear housing.

You guys are in violent agreement with each other and saying the same things. They are both 8" inch diffs motor locker housing for sale as 3rd members. They will fit in either a first gen tacoma axle or, as previously stated, you would have to find a second gen elocker axle housing. OP probably gets it at this point, the mod is not really cost effective, just cool because you can. The ARB locker is "a way" just as swapping a complete elocker axle setup from a donor 2nd TRD O/R model.

I disagree. If you have a 3rd member e-locker from a 2nd gen it will NOT fit a 1st gen housing. Been there with a customer who wanted to try it.

Keep your eyes peeled on these sites on the for sale sections. I got my e locker axle assembly from Wyatt on rock solid, Ray's truck. When they did the sas on Ray's taco. I saw it for sale, picked it up for 600. The whole axle, everything. Best thing I ever bought.

Let me rephrase then, It won't be a simple swap. Personally I wouldn't want to go drilling and cutting the rear housing on MY truck, but that is just me. lol.

YEP! That is how I put the e-locker in my 97 Tacoma! I took the entire rear diff from a 99 Pre-Runner and bolted it in!
