Hello, looking for some advice. I'm real eager to get my first tacoma, but a little gun shy of pulling the trigger. Ideally i was looking for a 2009-2013 DCLB and willing to spend up the 25k. However, i cam across this older truck and thought it was worth a look. Is it a good deal or a basket case waiting to happen? I'm concerned that a 10 year old truck with 120k is on the verge of everything wearing out. I'm also concerned if there's any really worthwhile features i'd miss out on that i want going back this far.

Here's what i know about it's condition from test drive: At first it didn't start, needed jumped, so battery is probably crap. Then when shifting into gear, shifter sort of stuck, it didn't go in the first time, seemed hard to move. Driving wise it had a little shimmy to it, my thought is it's just tire balance. They had two new tires on the rear, but had worn used ones on the front. There is a little minor rust starting around the front of the rear fendors speckled in the paint.

So I'm looking for advice, is this a diamond in the ruff, and i have nothing to worry about getting a tacoma that old, or should i keep looking until i find the one that fits my bill perfectly that's a lot newer and lower miles?

And is it priced too high still at $15000? They had it listed at 16999, claim they are losing money selling to me at 15k, but whatever...

It sounds like it has a few troubles with it. I was recently at my local dealer shopping fo my wife. The sales guy said my o6 DCSB TRD was roughly worth 16k w/ 145k.

Theres a little reffernce point for you to work from. Im in az

Plasti-dipped upper fenders and emblems. satin black spray paint here and there inside and out. 5100's set to 1.75" up front . C channel front bumper. Maxxis bighorn 255/85/16
ive got over 185,000 miles on my 05 trd OR prerunner, all ive replaced is u joints and brake pads (i bought it at 142,000) check the frame out really good for rust and they say that the early model 2nd gens had weeker motor mounts but they sell a gusset kit if that bothers u. i gave 13,000 (booked for 16,900) for mine private party in early 2011 so i would say that 15k would be a good deal since it has less miles than when i bought mine and its 4wd. is that a sport? it looks like it has a scoop in the first pic and the rims are 17's but there is a chrome rear bumper and i think those are trd seats. if that is the case it has a true lsd and an additive is required upon diff fluid change but thats no big deal

Just an FYI, that looks like a Sport with a chrome rear bumper, which to me indicates the original bumper was ruined in an accident of some sort and replaced incorrectly. Points to, along with your other issues, a truck that was not overly well-maintained. I would stay away from it. There is nothing wrong with a higer mileage Tacoma if it's been taken care of, though.

If you have 25,000 why settle for someone else' problems with all that mileage? Look and look hard man. To me that's junk, but I buy a new car every 2 years and would never ever buy a used car. 25,000 though you could get a hell of a used one

$15K is on the really high end for that truck, and something seems fishy. Like Patrick mentioned, the rear bumper is not right, and there are no TRD decals. It may have been in a wreck. I am not sure if this is at a dealership or at a used car lot, but either way it may have been put through some shady repairs. I am thinking about $12,500 to $13,000 is fair, assuming it has been in an accident and you may have to spend a little to get things fixed right.

You can't go by that. My 2010 TRD Sport had a chrome bumper on it because I swapped it out. And I took off all the stickers, so that right there is irrelevant. Take it and have it really looked at closely.

OP from what you said in the first post and everyone else's comments. I'd pass on this one.

Be patient. I saw a used 2008 with lift and wheels I wanted to buy so bad, but in the end for a bunch of reasons I passed and got a new 2013 DCLB TRD.

I just bought a 2005 double cab sport with 135,000 miles for 13k and it is super clean and no issues at all. It's a TRD Sport 2wd. I'm pleased and even though I think I over paid a bit I'm happy with purchase.

My oppinion, if you were looking to spend up to 25k, keep looking. For 25k you can get a relatively newer tacoma.

that would probably get you a 4x4 off road around here. $24-25k gets you a Non TRD package out the door; I think the TRD sport package is $3000 more but that's a waist of money, the sport is just a pretty sr5.
