I noticed this on my left front a few weeks ago, I'm not sure if its from me running something over or maybe a defect in the tire. All of my other tires are fine. I have about 3k miles on them, now I'm getting a bad vibration in my steering wheel which I would assume is just because I need to rotate and balance. Any input guys?

the tread looks like chunking from rocks, but that slice looks too clean to be from a rock

Have you checked your inner fender? I know I got some bad rub and some minor gashes from my inner fender, something to check I guess

I would take it back and try to say its thread seperation. Although it does look like the box cutter as mentioned above.

Do you have your cab mount chopped and not re-plated? Could be that too, rubbing against it.

Then take a good look where the flare is, i know that before i trimmed back my tire got a few gashes like that but it was when i was wheeling so it really could have been anything.

i would think the tire would be fine as it didnt penetrate the sidewall, just the tread lugs...i would monitor it for further seperation though. i had an approx 1/4" deep rock gouge out of the sidewall of my old BFG MTs and that thing stayed together for many miles after it happened..highway driving and more aired down fun
