    hi guys,

    05 tacoma with DRL
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/technical-chat/1475-05-drl-daytime-running-lights-install-oem.html
(might not even be related, but maybe)

i've always left the lights in the "auto" setting. worked fine since i've owned it, and even months after the DRL install.

occasionally, i would realize after i get out of my car and locked the door using my key fob, the headlights stayed on (usually they turn off when it arms). this has been getting progressively worse, and has left me stranded with a dead battery on several occasions. i can't always reproduce it, but it seems either when i open the door again, or close the door again, it does off.

i've visually checked the door pin contact and it's not all gunky, seems ok.

has anyone had this problem? i'm probably going to start ripping things apart to get to the bottom of this, but is there a particular system i should start with? does this sound like a wiring issue? faulty door switch? console switch? DLR causing problems?...

    thanks!

I dont know man, sounds like it is in the door to me, somewhere in the switch. Anyway I would just start turning off the headlights manually before getting out of the truck. Hope you find out the problem, keep us posted.
    Someone will chime in soon

I would start with the door switch. It's probably cheap and is easy to replace. Until you find it for sure though I would keep turning them off manually (prevents the dead battery crap).

Yes. You can turn your headlights on and turn your key all the way to start engine. You don't have to crank up. Just turn ignition off and open your drivers door. Headlights will turn off. Then next time you go driving your headlights will come on automatically.

oh i thought he was talking about a true "auto" feature, as in light sensitive, turning the headlights on when its dark and turning them off when it's bright..

all toyota's do that...i thought it was just on. i don't leave my headlights on during the day....

Not to thread jack buy does anyone know how to turn off the yellow parking lights?
I have 3 settings, the off one has only the parking lights on, the middle one turn on the corner lights and leaves Parkin lights on, and the 3rd one turns on the headlights...

I have the same problem with my '07. The turnsignal lights are on if the headlights are off. I would like to have nothing on during the day. How can I turn off the stupid daylight light running light thing?

Is it one of those turn on the key, honk your horn, slide the seat back, and smack the horn routines to change the setting?

    Lmao.
That "slide the seat back" was hilarious.
I really wouldn't mind one of those methods as long as they turn off when I turn the damn switch to "OFF"

I mod my truck so I can get the ambers on all the time and you want your factory DRLs off....
anyway, to answer your question, you can cut the green and red wire or run it through a switch like I did. It's all in the DTRL mod thread below.
