not sure if the wheel bearings or cv joints are shot?

ok so when i turn at a slow speed in either direction, i get a vibration in the floorboard and i hear a rubbing/growling sound. ive narrowed it down to either being my cv joints or my wheel bearings.

my cv boots are not busted or cracked but i did have a 3" lift with wider wheels and bigger tires on my truck for about a year. anything else i can be looking or listening for to figure out if its the wheel bearings or if its the cv joints??

 

I experienced a similar issue after upping the air pressure in my tires for a road trip. 36 to 40 PSI. I have since aired down to 35 and haven't heard/felt it since.

 

thats what i was thinking. i figured as long as the boots were still intact and solid i was good. but some of my symptoms match that of a bad cv joint so thats why i was still considering.

ok so i did some preventative maintenance the other day. greased the drive shafts and added some xl3 friction modifier to my rear diff for some added security. i changed my diff fluid about a month ago but just took it that the "LS" meant it had additive in it.

well, the vibes and squealing are gone! not sure which one it was but there are non existent.

 

Yeah it doesnt add up to me. I was pretty certain it was the wheel bearings from the symptoms i was having. I can understand the vibes going away after adding the xl3 to my rear diff (maybe the fluid didnt have enough additive).

Oh well, at least its better

 

You should get your 'ass meter' checked!

Were you using Mobile 1 LS gear lube? If yes..... I had to put 2 bottles of XL3 in my rear diff to stop some of the slight rumbles I was getting on left hand turns.
