I do not know how old you are but you are letting want override common sense and sage advice.

You are just trying to convince yourself and want a peer group to make you feel better about it.

Go ahead and buy it so we can have a thread later about you crying what a piece of junk you have just bought. Sorry if that sounds mean but I think you need a reality check and need to pull your head out of a dark place.

You seem to have convinced yourself on this. You can ask the dealer what it means when it's been bounced around from dealer to dealer but remember you'll be asking the salesman trying to sell it to you.
It's hard to tell from the Carfax info. shown here but was there by chance a flood or something like that could have happened back at the time it was first on a lot? A flooded vehicle can have all sorts of issues from rust to bad odors.

Otherwise, good luck. You'll probably need it.

If you won't listen to anyone else's advice listen to this....i bought a 2005 crewcab TRD off-road 6spd 4x4 with 42k miles on it including leather and the JBL system in the fall of 2008 for $16500. I'd run at that price. Heck i just sold my 2007 automatic TRD that was lifted with similar mileage to that truck for $20,500.

Now considering a 2006 with 25,565 miles. Clean short carfax, etc, closer.

Asking price 21,995.00. How low should I go? I'm going to call and name my price.

So far I noticed that the AM/FM antenna is modded/cut in half.

I agree to pricey for years and mileage. I bought my 2007 with 34k miles on it, double cab, manual, 4*4 for 19k in April.

Sorry Bandit but this 2nd choice will probably get you the same responses as the first truck due to the high price/yr.. I do question why such low miles on a 4yr old truck that has a modded antenna that is usually reserved for lifted trucks ? I think it may be the angle of the pic but the door Tacoma badge looks like partially red overspray. Go check/test drive it in person, look underneath the truck. This truck should be immaculate given the low miles. Takes some pics and post it for us to see. We don't want to sound like we are preventing you from making a purchase but most here have been around Tacomas for along time so advice here may come across brutal but mostly honest.

The two that listed prices would be v6. The access cab is a 6spd (only 5spd with inline 4) and all double cabs are v6 (until 2011).

Something does seem a bit sketchy on the first one... but let's also be honest... the 4x4 tacoma's hold value to almost pure insanity. That's part of the reason I didn't hesitate to get a 4x4 this time around. Hell even my pre-runner paid more from insurance wrecked than I bought it for...

The dealer bouncing would scare me. It could be as simple as someone couldn't stand driving a stick, could have been some dealer trades happened and the customer decided to go another route or fell through entirely (especially in this economy let's face it, getting financed is hard from some people). Again like said could be flood damage, excessive frame rust, broken mounts, throwout bearing issues.... any number of things. Hell maybe it's just been smoked in.

Personally, I'd stay away from it. Also 17k is A LOT for a beater... for under and around 15k you can find 4x4 first gens that are long travel, supercharged, and ready for abuse. That'd be a better beater imo.

His question wasn't the price, but if they were i4 or v6 engines...

Also yea, any TRD model would be v6...

To the OP, it could have been passed around as a trade for a vehicle another dealer wanted. For an example, someone wants a Camry and the dealership they are at does not have one so they call a local one and ask for the car. So the dealer with the car wants something in return for the Camry they are giving up.

For my Dad's taco, he go it from NH and the local dealership (in MA) drove a Corolla up to NH and drove the Taco back down.

Hey I have a friend that lives in Nyack. Her name is Daisy and her whole family is crazy.

Anyway... that tacoma is over priced big time. I got my 07 in 08 with 11K miles for $20K.

I have an 05 with 53K on it and no issues with motor mounts. The case you're talking about was an isolated instance and I haven't heard of another thing like that happening again in several years. Plus the guy admited that he was jumping a near stock Tacoma. These trucks are not desiged for that kind of punishment.

    Based on what?

You're asking good questions here. Demand is up for used vehicles and supply is low, this price is up from 6 months ago let alone a year or two ago. Dealer may have had an overstock of used trucks and sold it to another at auction because they needed the cash. But that's just speculation like everyone else is offering here. The 6spd is less populare because of it's reputation for being somewhat clunky when driving...ask me how I know lol. Still wouldn't trade mine for the world.

Prices are still going up for used cars, because people don't have the money for new, plus you have to take into consideration the fact that different areas of the country demand different prices. You can't just lump sum all prices and say that anything over a price point is a bad deal. I paid $19,000 OTD for my taco back in Sep '09 and that was a good deal for the mileage and it was a 4x4. Similar trucks were going for $22.5K+ in my area.

OP the best thing to do is find similar Tacomas in your area and price them out. If you see a low price start asking the questions and don't get emotionally attached. Moreover don't allow the opinions of a forum sway you too much from you decision, someone will allways second guess you actions, you have to live with them.
