2nd Gen Frame Replacement

Does anyone know how much it'd cost to replace the entire frame (parts and labor) on the 05-present Tacomas? I'm doing some cost/benefit decisions on rust prevention periodic sprays etc and can't really do it unless I know how much it costs just to replace it when it gets rusted.

 

2nd gens haven't really had a big problem with rust. Do they use alot of salt on the roads in the winter?

 

Probably be cheaper to buy a beater truck to drive during the winter and leave the taco in the garage for the winter!

 

are you an Industrial Technology major? Sounds like a bunch of crap I had to do during a few of my classes.

 

Don't know about 2nd gen, but I read somewhere that Toyota was paying $10,000+ to replace the 1st gen frames that they replaced.

 

The quote I have from insurance says 5352.16 in parts (before tax) and 2100 (28 hours x $75/hour) in labor to replace the frame alone.

Don't know how accurate that is though, since the body shop is calling the insurance people back in to reappraise the whole vehicle.

 

I'm just trying to see how much it'd cost. There are already minor rust on the lower control arm and some of the underbody. I drive on a lot of gravel/dirt roads and I'm sure it's just surface rust from paint chipping.

My big concern right now is for 2 years from now when I'll be moving to Boston. It's next the the ocean and I'm sure they use tons of salt.
