I traded in my 2006 2.7 access cab pre-runner for a 4.7 TRD Tundra. BIG Mistake to say the least. The 2.7 has a very powerful motor and can do just about anything you need it to do. I do hear on other sites that the v6 Tundra is a nice truck with mixed driving around 21 mpg. Hope this helps. 2.7 is smooth as silk.

I did it again. Got tired of paying truck payments and gas and traded in for a 2015 Honda Accord Sport since I enjoyed my 2013 Sport so much.
Personally I would always get the bigger engine...better to have and not need than need and not have. Same reason why I would always get a Towing Package even if i dont' plan on towing: the extra coolers and different alternator would probably be beneficial in the long run.

I know that Toyota's engines are very refined, but when driving a 4.8L V8 Silverado and a 5.3L V8 Silverado, I could definitely tell a difference. And they were both V8's, not a I4 and V6 comparison.

The 2.7L is probably acceptable for a two wheel drive or a 4x4 regular cab, but if you are getting a 4x4 access cab, pay the extra $2K and get a V6 Auto. You won't regret it, and the resale value will be higher.

To say it will do anything the 4.0 will is going a little far.

But its definitely an good engine and for those who don't mind driving a manual its a great option

Trust me on this one. Go with the V6. I have had a/c toyota's with a 4cyl and I could have shot myself! I had come from another toyota with a V6 and I will never make that mistake again! Now keep this in mind, and i am sure you do. Buy a truck with in your means. I could go on about the economy but its old news. But if you crunch your numbers and find you can go w/a v6, go for it! Or, find a 2003-2004 with a v6 that might have low miles and if its affordable go that route. It all boils down to you and what you decide.

    GOOD LUCK! :D

Think about it this way: you're already spending so much on the car....a few extra grand on it for that extra bit of engine performance is worth it.

Think about it this way: you're already planning to spend a lot on a truck....

Why waste even MORE money for a more expensive truck PLUS higher insurance rates, more ever more expensive fuel, and (slightly) more maintenance for an extra 70 horsepower that you won't use 99% of the time and if you do an increased risk of an accident.... especially for a first time driver which is who the original poster will be.

My insurance is $110 a month for my V6. 17 years old, no tickets, no accidents, good grades discount, driver ed discount, full coverage.

On my SE-R it was $250 a month

It helps that you're in Florida, in RI it would be at least double that. What would it be with the I4? I'll bet a tank of gas the V6 costs more to insure.

I have no idea what it would be with the I4. I'll try finding out later today.

Broken and scratched tailgate, cracked rear tail light lens, coffee stain in driver seat.
Go with the I-4, 5 speed and access cab, you'll be fine.
