I totaled a 2011 Ford truck that was paid for. I used that insurance money plus some to buy my new truck outright. I had to get the base model, but it's well worth it to drive MY truck and not the bank's.

IMO that's a great win win, everybody benefits and should be happy/proud! Truck is certainly cheaper than tuition and you are rewarded for your hard work and efforts. Not all families are able to do this but it's great when you can. Our daughter graduated on time and with scholarship and also worked while in college. We were happy to surprise her with down payment for her home with money we had previously saved for her college. Hard work usually eventually pays off.

My 2005 access cab Pre-Runner had been paid off for 5 years, until yesterday, when I traded it in for a 2010 TRD Off-Road 4x4
Yesterday:

Today (well, taken last night):

I still have to dog.

Paid in full a while back. Driving it into the ground before I take on another payment again. It's nice not shelling out $500 a month anymore.

Paid mine in full the day I bought it. After trade in I only came out of pocket 500.00. Negotiated in TTL to asking price.

Putting my car payment into the house.

I have about 12-13K left. Paid for most of truck upon purchase. I can pay off the loan but at .9% I'd rather keep the money in the bank.

My '96 was a gift from my grandpa.
My '08 I owe around $7K.
So on the poll I would have to put yes and no.
