Any pics of the tailgate hose clamp?

I was reading a thread on page 8 and the photo there is now gone. Someone post some up for me, please?

Definitely put a strip of rubber/plastic under the clamp to prevent premature rusting in that area.

I'm totally doing that... and grinding the head off the clamp.

 

I didn't take the gate off to look but does a clamp on the driver side do anything?


Also, if you grind the head off, it will be a pain to remove the clamp, if necessary.

 

Why not fill in the screwdriver slot with epoxy/JB Weld? That way you could still access it with a socket and long extension but not a screwdriver. A serious thief might have a screwdriver in his bag of burglar tools, but likely would have left the socket set at his hideout.

 

Climb under the truck, have someone hold the tailgate partway open and you can line up the screw on the clamp so when the tailgate is down the screw head can't be reached.

 

Well, that's the whole point, isn't it? I never plan to remove my gate, but never say never. If I ever do need to, I can grind a new slot in the head in about 10 seconds with my Dremel and then take it off with a screwdriver - or just cut the clamp band.

fletchaka, that is an EXCELLENT suggestion about positioning the clamp on the gate so it can't be accessed when the gate is down! Thanks... I'm doing that (too).

 

Well, if you're going to be doing that sort of thing often, then my method would obviously be a bad idea. Not an issue for me. You just have to keep in mind that the easier it is for you, the easier it is for a thief - and balance your needs accordingly.
