This not a joke...I am some what mechanically inclined and do all the maintenance myself.

after turning the cap a quarter turn...the lip on the bottom is lined with the opening but the cap won't come off. I didn't want to apply a ton of pressure. Do I need to angle it more on one side and then lift up?

Push it down again and turn it more. Your on the pressure relief spot. So it don't fly off in your face if it's hot.

Don't open it when it's hot. Unless you like your skin falling off, that is;)
Usually 1/4 turn or less after the first notch.

That's very good advice. Make sure the engines cooled the hell off before you try. I turned it a little to relieve pressure right after a 5 min drive and it started to spew out so I closed it right away..burnt a little skin off the finger
