LR UCA Question?

Well its getting towards the end of summer and I finally have saved up some money to spend on my truck . I ordered a set of Light Racing UCA's for my tacoma and a few other things. Im excited about getting these...as they seem to be the best bang for the buck. But after doing some research I found that they "had" some issues with the ball joints and bushings. Does anyone know if this has been corrected and/or how to tell when mine arrive that they are ok. Thanks for your help.

they were haveing some problems with the ball joint (binding i believe), but that has been completely taken care of. i put a set on over the winter, and they are great. way beefier than the stock arms, and once you are able to describe how to adjust them to the alignment tech (the potentially hard part), they'll get your alignment perfect.

 

Thats good news. Just wanted to clarify. Did you install yours? The process seems pretty straight forward but any tips or advice would be welcomed.

 

install is very easy, jsut don't be afraid to really pull on the inner fender to make room for the long bolt

 

Ha alright thanks. Do the instructions do a good job of explaining on how to adjust the caster and camber?

 

you'll have to bring it to get an alignment after you instal them, but in the zero position (the instructions will explain what this is), there are -2 degrees of caster built in to correct for lifting the truck.i just set the camber nut all of the way to the outside to drive to the alignment shop. just a tip...set the camber nut all of the way to the outside and ask the tech to adjust the camber on the truck, not the UCA, that way if the nut ever slips (you hit a curb or really push it off road), you can jsut set the nut all of the way out again and don't have to get it realigned.

The binding ball joint, was the issue I discovered and notified Specialty Products about, (That's why I have 3 set of ball joints in my garage) back when the LR UCA's first came out and I was doing R&D on my 6" lift to work out the bugs. They found an issue with how the ball joint was being put together. They have since corrected that issue.

The bushing tearing was because, they were using a rubber that had the wrong durometer. They have since resolved that issue also!

Their Customer support is Outstanding!! If any issue should arise? They will do everything they can to fix it!

Yeah, the problem's been solved for well over a year now. I too have a spare set of bad ball joints in my garage.

 

Install was fairly easy. If I did it over again I would buy a new bolt for the passenger side, and just the the factory one off. Its a pita.

Thanks for all the feed back. Glad to hear they have all the issues worked out now. If I end up cutting the bolt to get it out...would I need to replace it with a special grade bolt?

Just get a bolt from the dealer. They're only $12.

 

Anybody have a part number for the UCA bolt. I tried to ordered them from my local toyota dealer but the parts guy apparently has killed to many brain cells and ordered the wrong bolts.

 

There was nothing to getting the bolt out. IIRC, I bought 2 and used neither since all you have to do is bend the front of the metal of the wheel well an inch or so to get the bolt out. Didn't even break the paint off it. I'll try to locate the bolts after work if anyone reaallly wants to cut theirs off. Seemed like more of a hassle to get the dremmel in a good spot to cut than it was to just bend the metal a bit. No need to move battery or wiper washer bottle either.

 

Yea thats what I am probably gonna end up doing now. Dont feel like waiting on two new bolts to come in.
