3" lift = need bigger tires?

Will I need to get bigger tires to accommodate a 3" lift?

 

they are not necessary, and i see people running stock tires w/ a 3", its all about what you like the look of really, i decided to go bigger and am happy i did for sure...here is my 3" lift on 33":

From the sides my 245/75/16's didnt look bad, but from the front it looked a tad bit silly... like a boat. Got 265/75/16 duratracs on it, and its much better.

If you don't...it'll look funny.

You gotta have 'the tires' to fill up the empty space.

Something else to think about... What's is your purpose of putting a lift on? You're not gaining any ground clearance unless you put bigger tires on.

 

I would recommend it... I saw some without and I just think it looks funny.

What lift you going with? I am looking at the 3 inch lifts, making my own setup with FOX coilovers and TC UCAs. rear with custom Alcan springs and Fox shocks.

 

I'm also buying a 3" lift and as tempting as it will be to put it on right away I think I will wait for tires..........or maybe not

 

I thought mine looked a little silly with the stock tires and I just have a 2.5" lift. There was too much visible in the wheel wells. It wasn't awful or embarrassing but noticeable to the average person.

 

I don't know what kind of lift to go with. Also, I just recently got new stock sized tires so I didn't want to spend another $400+ just yet. I think I'll get some of TW's opinions on which lift brand and tires to buy in about 2 years or so.

 

i would say go with the toytec ultimate lift for sure, i love it and have absolutely no regrets at all....rides great on the road, and even better off road

Your truck looks great. I think I can get those 295/70/17 on stock rims too.

You guys need to go wheeling out by my old place in Wittmann by the Toyota proving grounds. I always wish I would.

 

Seriously. I think those are to big. Youve got what 2 inches at the most before your rubbing? I mean not to knock your truck it looks great but sheesh it looks like if you hit a bump or dip in the road your gonna be rubbing.

 

All about backspacing and offset. I've got about 4.25" between tire and fender. I have no problems except at full lockout in reverse.

I'm not talking about backspacing or offset. I'm talking about the distance between your tire and the lower corners of your wheel wells. Beautifull truck man I just don't see you doing anything but driving in the desert. From the side pic (although might be deceiving) looks like you couldn't flex it more than 4 inches total.

I've got 265,70,16's on my "02" with a 3in toytech lift/level kit and I think there perfect for it. Plenty of room to flex with out scraping and no wheel to wheel rubbing. The only thing more rubber for me is gonna do is maybe give me another inch or 2 of lift which I dont really want.

Do I see 2 spare tires? Why don't you take off the one underneath? I'm sure that will drop some weight off, right?

I like keeping the second (donut) spare in the event that someone else needs it on the trails
