Why does Toyota hate the Tacoma

Why won't Toyota give Tacoma's options. Most other trucks in the class have sunroof, leather, and even V8's. All I hear is they don't want it to cut into the Tundra sales. That is a BS excuse, Tundra sales are crap anyway and they don't even fill the same niche. It's even more of a slap in the face to me, as a Tacoma owner, when they come out with packages like the T/X. Seriously Toyota, you put a TRD exhaust and ugly wheels on it and expect people to bite into the "it's special edition" idea! Get real. Give me some options already!!! A truck that holds 40% of the market and outsells Rangers 2:1 deserves a little more attention from the maker.

The Tacoma has a specific price point and a profit margin that Toyota does not want to mess with. It's obviously working.

I think this thread as already been done. Pretty much the same as "What don't you like about Tacoma". Everyone complained about all the options and things it did'nt have, and like I said on there, why didn't you buy those other trucks with all the things you wanted? IMO of course. I like the Tacoma as is, otherwise I wouldn't have bought it.

Why dont' they offer more options?

B/c it's selling the way it is. Why add more to cost/development/production when their product is doing great as is?

^This. The truck sells like crazy at the price point it's in.

If you really want all the "extras" like sunroof and leather seats-Take the money that you save by not paying dealer/manu install prices and get better products installed aftermarket??

You would easily pay an extra 1500-1800 for a sunroof or more for the "sport luxury whatever" package- And 1500 is what I got quoted for a Webasto sunroof installed.

i have to agree. however, if toyota came out with a v8, leather interior, sunroof tacoma with HID headlights id haul ass over there to buy a new one.

but since that is not happening, ill stick with what i have. so in a way, they could attract more buyers who say, "well if the tacoma had more options id buy one, but since they dont ill buy this ford"

I agree but IMHO I don't think people would want to pay 35-40k for a tacoma. My factory leather was an extra 1399. By the time you start adding heat to the seats it would probably be another 600. A sunroof would probably run another 1200 to 1500 from the factory if they offered it. A V8 would probably run another 2500 or more.

Hence the rust problems with the frame Outdated dash/interior. Based on what I've seen overseas the are raping the us market because those trucks are better built and id bet cheaper to build because of the price point of those trucks.

Mayby DOT has something to do with it.

Obviously you haven't driven a 2nd Gen and a new Nissan Frontier. The interior in the Frontier is hideous.

What's outdated about it? As for the rust issue it's due to poor coating, you can fix that yourself pretty easily though I agree the factory should have done it to start.

I like the power that the V6 has, it's plenty for me...I think for the price it is at now you can't beat it, a V8 for me would be overkill and overpriced...Toyota obviously knows what they are doing or the Tacoma wouldn't control almost half of the market sales. Just my .02, I don't doubt that a few of you guys would love to have a V8

Don't get me wrong - I do believe the Tacoma is a good work/utility truck. I don't believe they have such a large share of the market because their truck is just that awsome; so much as that the competition has really sucked for the last decade. The Ranger has been an insult to the Ford line since it came out - and with the 2nd Gen Tacomas and new Nissan Frontiers it is all the more obvious and pathetic. The new Frontiers are a step in the right direction with a powerful motor, disc brakes all the way around, a "truck" sitting position, decent handling, and large interior. They are failures because they are selling them to high - so people are loosing large chunks of money when they buy them, their interiors are cheap plastic everywhere, and their body metal is soft. I have seen the results of the hail storms that rolled through Texas last summer. I cruised the truck lots looking for a dent-deal. That trip showed me that the Tacomas took a beating alot better than the Frontier. Both lots were hit by the same storms - and both lots had a lot of trucks out there, but almost all the Frontiers were salvage titled from the storm due to damage. The Tacomas two lots over were dented, but not to badly.

Toyota should pay attention to the shifting market - otherwise they run the risk of making the Tacoma the next Ranger.

I know here in Canada you can get a leather package with the TRD Sport. This truck cost $40,000 CAD. You can almost get a tundra for that price. An SR5 DC cost like $32,000, $35,000 for a TRD without the leather.

I just dont think anyone will pay for a heavily optioned Tacoma. I know I would'nt pay $40,000+ for an optioned up Tacoma.
