i recently took my taco out to the beach the other day and drove around a bit on the sand. on my way out i passed this 93' camero that was stuck in the sand and i stopped to see if he needed help. then i realized that i have no idea how to help him :p so i started moving forward then...

my wheels started to spin a bit but i was still moving forward and i got out and went home...

i started thinking what my 4x2 is capable of
im not planning going to go mudding or go on trails... but probably some beach off roading or camping

i am also new to trucks never had one so i don't know much about them
my taco is 10' prerunner with trd OF package

i read other threads and seems like there are people out there that make fun of pre-runners :(

you just have to know your limits in a 2wd. most all people that have 4wd never use it anyway. don't feel bad, lol

Ignorant fools make fun of pre-runners if you ask me. That said, 4x2 is only so good on off road terrain. More traction is always better, and if your'e going to use the truck for such tasks, the general consensus is why didn't you get a 4x4.

Anyway my last truck was 4x2 locked (like yours). With good tires (I had BFG AT KO's) it made a world of difference. On sand, air down and keep the momentum up and you should be fine most of the time. Carry some plywood and a shovel with you in case you need to dig/gain traction out. Also never wheel alone. I did some shit I never thought possible with my old truck, but it was never a 4x4.

IMO, ur rigs' capabilities are really up to u and ur skill. Ive taken my 2.7l Prerunner Non-locker on trails with some 4x's. With a bit of guidance, Ive made it up stuff i didnt think i could. Especially in my 4banger. Dont undererstimate the PreRunner, and dont drive ur rig where u know u'll probably get stuck. Unless u got a 4x with u. Then its all good times brother. Good luck to you.

i wheel my Tacoma like no other man. iv been stuck PLENTY of times and learned alot about offroading and how to recover my truck in very tricky situations. i think having 2wd has tought me alot about wheelin.

i love my prerunner and im very thankful for the locker. it really helps me keep up with the 4x4's on the trail. ill go about anywhere as long as its not raining because if its raining and the trails are wet... things just get ugly and lead to damage.

my dad got this truck for me and didnt let me have 4wd... i wish i had 4wd but beggers cant be choosers.

ill eventully convert my prerunner into a 4wd later down the road:D

Good set of tires is key. And dropping it into 1st gear always helps a lil...

good tires is a big plus. air your tires down to around 15 psi. make sure you have a way to air them back up before you get back on the road though. and learn how to use your rear locker. it will help a lot out in the sand.

Ive been stuck in the sand before and if I would have had a locker Im pretty sure I would have made it out just fine

I have a PreRunner in part due to my bad back. It is MUCH easier to get in and out of when my back is acting up. I also own a class A RV, and the 4x4 is NOT flat towable without installing a driveshaft disconnect. My 4banger, 5 speed manual is flat towable without modifications. I was also able to spec the SR5 model, instead of a stripped down 4x4. We also get better gas mileage.

For those who make fun of our PreRunners, I say piss off. ;)

Lol i know with more speed, i could've made it up (its alot steeper than my camera makes it look) . But i was a new driver then, and just got the truck :D. 08 4x2 PreRunner, No LSD :(

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4q-kH3uC9WM

From the same day (after i got up that first hill).

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3kbsszPIXI

These PreRunners really do have a lot of capability, just you gotta know the limits of 2WD and drive responsibly :p We bought this truck in feb 08, later that year toyota came out with the 09 and it had a standard LSD
